It certainly is an ego thing. Sometimes I back the wagon like nobodies business and sometimes I have to laugh at myself for making so many pull-ups like a new student in school. That's just the way it is for me, I'm not embarrassed or ashamed:biggrin_25517:

I like to back into a spot on my first shot and most of the time I do, but my job is different as I hardly ever back into a dock. We have some pretty crazy spots to back that u would never think of backing in, but if it is a new place or looks tough or dangerous I always get out and look and if needed tell one of the crew to back me up. I do know that on a day I do have a problem the guys mess with me about it but it is in fun. I always say safety first.

Do as many pull-ups and get-outs as you have to. And don't be ashamed or embarrassed if anybody sees you. Actually, it's the people watching you that won't get off their dead ### - or even key up the radio - to help another driver back in that are the ones who should be ashamed.

Could not have said it better MYSELF!!--as I have stated many times here--what I do is a little different than most OTR--I only do long haul LTL--and IMHO--with the exception of local ltl freight guys I back in more than most--and have been doing it a very looooong time--there are days I can make 10 stops--all in very tight docks--and have no choice but blindside at 8 of them--and seems like I CAN"T MISS--and other days--I have just 2-3 stops--with lots of room etc--and can't get in the door with a gun to my head!--just how it goes!
ALL THAT MATTERS IN REALITY--is you get the JOB DONE SAFELY!
So just relax--and don't take it so seriously--obviously the more you do it the better (easier)it will become!)
Although one piece of advice--I will throw out to newer drivers--it is almost always easier to start all over--pull out completely and realign yourself--then to keep pulling up and try to fix a bad line up--that is the #1 problem I see with newer drivers--you get part way in--and not really able to square up--and keep trying to fix it and get closer and close to other vehicles--IMHO--in many tight spaces--it is usually advisable to just pull back out--and do whatever it takes to re-align yourself--so you can start over--and yes I have many times walked my old crotchety ##### over to a new driver struggling--and advised just that--and stayed to help--along with dropping that big assed long hood--you are trying to get around in the first place--LOL
As for what others say or think?? Look at em like just another s****y receiver--mind over matter----I don't mind cause YOU don't matter!
    Just my $.02

I had bad days and good days. So has my hubby. We both have the same problem . . . the easier the spot the harder it is to get it right, the harder the spot the easier it is!

I am all about doing it right and doing as many pull ups as needed. That said, I was at a truck stop the other night where a team was trying to back into a spot. One team member was out spotting and the driver made four attempts at one spot and then tried a spot about 10 spaces over with the same amount of room. Some guy in an RV (5th Wheel) was trying to get through and the semi driver was b####ing like crazy on the CB about the idiot, "Can't he see my flashers?" Some other driver responded (correctly) "he probably does not know what they mean" The driver then proceeded to do another 9 pull-ups. So that was a total of 13 pull-ups with a spotter.

    Just saying...

You've been driving for 10 years and don't know what a pull-up is? You must be a flatbedder!:biggrin_2559:
