I just got out of a trainors truck on tues. same day i got my truck. I had to back a lot this week, one place i had to back blindside, downhill on a slippery, half paved, half dirt surface. First i tried to sight side back, but, my tires kept spinning, so no go.
so, what seemed like 30 minutes later, with so many pull ups i couldnt count, and i know i climbed in and out of the tractor at least 10 times, i got her in to the dock. safely, no scratches, dents, ect. for the rest of the week i got better and better and i credit that situation with giving me some confidence. I do and will continue to do as many pull ups and goals as i feel i need to get the job done right and safe. if theres someone who wants me to hurry up, too bad, I dont want to be there forever either but i want that lecture about being safe and not damaging company equipment from the owner even less. The point is to get better by doing, and be safe. Oh, and a big tip for my newbie brothers out there, turn off the cb while backing, especialy in truck stops. It,s really hard to back up with those a@^$!%#s jabbering about the rookie trying to back, I started laughing so hard I had to stop. I got a lot to learn yet, and it will be a long time before i consider myself as proficent at backing. but i am learning every time i do it. that seems to me to be the key, in life, as well as this job, always keep learning. thats a lot more than i meant to write.
happy trails

A successful backing maneuver is one that no damage has been cause, not how few pull ups you've done, or that you didn't get out of the truck to take a look.

NY to LA =2777 miles
Friday to Sunday 72 hours
72 - 30 for 10hours breaks = 42
42 - 2 hours for fueling & pre/post trips = 40 hours driving time.
2777 divide by 40 = 69 mph.....
From my streets & Trips set up with 10 hour breaks after 11 driving.
At average speeds.
So, is it doable ?

I'm never buying it. The truck's average speed would have to be significantly high without much change in speed to even make that trip (illegally).
