    What is this pull?

Do you understand I don't comprehend the question? Pull what? The trailer? CDL? No CDL?

This is not a attack, just a honest question asking for clarification from your original question.

What are you trying to do that has you worried about the Law with that 18 wheeler?

And what is a Leaner please? There is nothing of that sort anywhere with that word.

Some states it is legal to, some you can drive the bobtail only, doubt having a mt trailer or loaded makes much difference. Check with the local Dot folks to find a real answer.

    Ok.

    Thank you.

You can have a CDL Permit, in your wallet with a VALID DOT Medical as part of it.

There has to be a human being alive in the passenger seat on your right. Who holds a full blooded CDL with everything necessary to support you as a permit driver.

The truck also has to be properly insured, etc.

It is my hope you are running a MANUAL transmission. It is so important now that the States exercised their stupidity making restrictions against those who just test in automatic trucks for the CDL.

The trailer can be whatever anyone wants it to be, provided it is not Hazmat or outside of your Endorsements contained in your Permit, if any.

You also are causing me to edge towards possible conflict with the Permit. You are there to learn how to drive. Not haul freight all over the USA on it.

The commercial learner's permit allows you to drive a commercial vehicle of the class and type shown on the permit only when a person licensed to drive the same type of vehicle is with you. When applying for a commercial learner's permit, you must certify on the application that you are or are not required to comply with federal or state regulations.

If you get a tank endorsement you can only pull empty tanks on permit.

I live in Virginia.. If you have someone in the truck with you that has their CDL then no it is not against the Law... but you cannot pull any load with just a CDL permit.. works the same way as a kids Learners permit would in Virginia..
