What do you find more reliable way to check a used truck before purchasing: dyno test or oil sample?
If dyno test: what are desirable results of the test?
If oil sample check: how to read the results and what information would make you decide to proceed with the purchase or retreat?

They change the oil, dyno wont tell you much, drive, have another mechanic look at it, look for blow by start the truck open the fill tube for oil see how much smoke comes out, get maintenance report, any maintenance recipes

Both, plus a blow by.
Blowby is only tested with the truck running under maximum load.
The dyno operator will tell you the tolerance of blow by. Depending on the age, you should take off the list any truck making less then ~75% rated HP.DechkoTzar, kimbosa and Speed_Drums Thank this. -
rigdigreport.com like a car fax for cars only for trucks. Also tell the dealer not to change the oil until you have had ability to get a sample for testing.
