OK looks like I will have to go O/O to get back on the road. Not even Swift or Werner will hire me with my work history, being a caregiver for my dad left me with a 4 year hole in my WH.
SO as I am considering skateboards as the route I am going, what do I need to look for in a tractor?
1. Brand
2. Engine
3. Trans
4. Suspension
5. Gearing
6. whatever else to look for
Used, New?
Max mileage?

Iwill tell you my way
Buy a tractor that you can afford, dont be a chrome stupid
Make sure that tractor you buying is mechanicly good shape(no major problems ,you can fix the smaal stuff by time.Dont let that scare you)
Work hard but not cheep,Dont take $ 100.00 mile loads
If you making decent money, dont spend on stupid stuff New car, truck girl friend ETC.
Dont buy a tractor under power 475 HP 3,55 rears 10 or 13 speed, jake brakes is will do just fine
High milege truck is OK if checks out
(my truck had 833000 miles when I bought it)
I am sure some will agree with me some dont ,but I am makining it SO CAN YOU
good luck driverJimTheHut Thanks this. -

Heck if you do not want the $100.00 mile loads give them to me
REDD Thanks this. -
An older truck will make you lots of $$$...
Make sure you a light enough tare weight w/trailer because you'll need to haul some heavy loads to get out of some regions...
You need enough wheelbase to allow you to occasionally overhang the freight off the front of the trailer... steel beams, engineered trusses, etc...
Get a 48X102 trailer unless all you haul is steel...
You probably won't need a side kit...
Buy light weight tarps... they will save your back...
Don't sign a mileage contract... -
Not always the case! I thought the same thing at first. My older truck cost a hell of a lot more money then what it was worth!

Got to be willing to get dirty, suffer in the heat and cold, the willingness to lay down in the slush, and miss out on alot of family stuff if you want to own any truck let alone an old one.
Its taken a few years but I wouldn't trade my old wore out truck for anything!TURKER Thanks this. -
i have found quite a few on truckpaper, 15-40k 450-790k, 10 -13 -18 speeds. Gears are unknown on most.
What about trailers.
Also what other stuff will I need. I am hoping still to find a company, but not expecting it. I have never run flat so any extra info would be helpful... -
KROOSER how much $ has your older truck made in the past week ?
