best coax you can afford and nothing beats the 102' steel whip for a truck just center mount it off the bed and get a good ground im not the best to tell you the proper setup for wiring it but center of the truck 102' steel whip and you will have a great setup
-
Or you could go with the Wilson 1000 Mag-Mount if you want something quick and removable that works well. If you don't mind a permanent mount, but don't want to go with 102" whip, a 4.5ft to 5.5ft Francis, Wilson, Firestick, or Skipshooter, etc fiberglass antenna will work well also. (The longer the better...thus the 102" is the best.

I would like a permanent mount over the magnet. I think a 4'-5' fiberglass may be what I go with. Any benefit of a hood/fender mount over a bed rail mount?
-
102' is the standard and best antenna for cb and as far as being center mounted it is about reflect and the ability to catch the waves at their optimal without your truck blocking it but either setup you do should work fine just beware if that fiberglass hits something at a relative speed its done compared to a steel whip..if you are just running a 29 lx out of the box a fiberglass setup with a solid ground will provide an applicable service for rx n tx

Thanks for the reply. It will be right out of the box. I can always upgrade later if needed. Just trying to get everything I think I'll need for the truck bought and installed. This is the mount I've found. It appears to be pretty good.

Mounting an antenna can be a tricky proposition on late model trucks. On my 2000 GMC Sonoma, the bed would not provide a good enough rf ground. The front fender worked well however, but I did do some additional grounding under the hood. I didn't like the look on the front fender so I ended up drilling a hole in the roof and mounting a Wilson 1000 right in the center! Works good. On full size trucks, the bed seems to work pretty good. It will work better if you mount the antenna about 18" to 24" away from the cab (about tool box width).

Ok thanks for the tip.
I would rather have it on the bedrail versus the fender but I'm going to have an auxilary fuel tank right at bed height. I think it would look kinda strange offsetting the antenna there. I'll look around and see what I can come up with. -
You might get away mounting a good top loaded antenna right behind the cab. You see a lot of them mounted there. But I would almost guarantee it will work better if you mount it about two ft behind the cab. An antenna anywhere does not add to the looks of a vehicle IMO. Some people mount a second antenna (a dummy antenna) on the other side of the bed to add a balanced look.

+1 on the Wilson 1000. No need for a 102" whip. They're a PITA. Second choice is a Firestick.
