Both of my trucks have pushers one is a steer, and the refer unit is a spread ax with an ag pusher the flat deck has a tag, all are up when empty! All are down loaded on the hiway! Sharp turns when loaded lift them , it's easier on the tires,

the weight you are putting on a pusher on a truck is pretty much a set it and forget it deal. i have a switch in my dash to raise it and lower it, its a steerable to i don't lift it to turn 99% of the time. you don't really turn sharp enough on the road for it to not follow, i lift it as soon as i am off the road so it is up before i have to do any tight maneuvering.
i put a around 9k lbs or a bit more on my 12k steerable its enough weight that you don't accidentally lock the breaks up it rides decent and dot gives you your full bridge on the 3 axle group. i run 255 tires on mine i think they are rated for around 11k between the two of them. but if you have 40k on the group instead of 42 or whatever no reason to change the psi. -
I have a switch in my cab also to lift or lower the pusher. Whenever I pull into yards or to load I raise it up. As soon as I get on the pavement I put it down. Mine is also steerable so it stays down all the time when I'm loaded.

Can somebody explain why a person would want to adjust the regulator on the fly?
I'm a little curious after hearing some people doing so I've set mine once. Loaded up to gross dropped the tag only on the scale and set it to 10500lbs haven't messed with it since. I'm curious as to what benefit changing air pressure in a dummy axle would have going down the road.Kenworth 4life Thanks this. -
I haul a lot of aggregate, stone sand gravel, and some of the roads I'm on are not so perfect, I like to be able too adjust for that, not enough pressure you get chatter and to much pressure and you get bucking,

i haul a lot o aggregate as well if the road is that bad i just pick the thing up, your know if dot is in the area or not, if they are deal with it till they go away.

The secondary roads in Maine are more like goat paths and everyone is dot here

Now I understand I've never personally run a truck with a pusher but a lot of the guys I run with have them so I've picked up a thing or 2 here or there about them. We've never had that issue with our tags but then again the only time we have our axles down is when were on the road soon as we hit private property it comes up.

I just pull hopper bottom and occasionally detach trailers so when I'm loaded I have pusher down and as soon as I get into a yard I put it up. When I am empty it is always up. I haven't adjusted my regulator since I installed it so pretty much stays where it's at.
