Would your current demeanor have anything to do with, by chance?

When your student is being trained he should be behind the wheel and not on the phone. Furthermore if the student was in the passenger seat then the truck should be parked...

I hope your company is not like a lot of companies i see out here who simply use their training program as a way to get cheap teams. I do realize that there are some circumstances where it may be necessary to demonstrate proper technique but short of that the trainer should be in the passenger seat.

Other than those occasions where your student is clearly receiving instruction, should they desire to be on their smartphone then you just have to deal with it. This is the 21st century and listening to people complain about people enjoying emerging technology is retarded....reminds me of when people used to complain about television, radio, cd players, walkman, headphones or automobiles for that matter..get a horse they would say.

I spend a lot of time browsing the net and reading many articles...i do not have a tv in my truck. I also use my smartphone for many work related issues as well and dont understand why so many come out against things they dont understand or maybe dont prefer themselves...

Mine was built like a fire-hydrant.....short and squat...but could move like a cat when he wanted. He loved to ask what I thought at the time were the most ignorant questions known to man. How many cars are behind you....what color is the 3rd one...what make is the 1st one....what did that last billboard say....how high was that bridge we went under a couple miles back....what was the number of the last road sign you saw...he told me to get into the habit of reading every sign , every billboard , every road number , etc that I saw...also he taught me to never "loose a car" either in front/behind/ and especially beside you. Watch the wheels of vehicles that might pull into your lane of travel from side roads (he said you'll see them move way before you can see the whole car move) , also when approaching cars entering from the side cover your brake , only takes a second , and it may save someone's life...
You know after a 30 some year career and , idk , maybe 3 million accident free miles......I'm glad he took the time to instruct me in the right fashion....just maybe not so loud there Uncle...:biggrin_25525:

As far as the smart phone thing my uncle would've taken the thing and thrown it out the window....no questions , no warnings , no "will you put that thing away and listen speeches" ....JUST TAKE AND TOSS IT...then he might have asked , if I had a problem with him doing that. Knowing all the while I knew better than to open my mouth..That's the way that scenario would've gone back then.

My Uncles gone now , died back in 1991....I was fortunate and honored to be a pal-bearer at his funeral. Awesome man he was. I know for a fact the reason for my successful career was due to his love of driving , and his passion for doing it safely , and the patience that he used while teaching me the ropes. I only wish he would have lived to see me retire with an accident free career.

He comes off, to me at least, as being put-off and offended by the posts he has received and , thus, responds with what "sounds" like anger. My point is that if he has such little tolerance for students as he displays here, it is no wonder...
I respect his sentiment and understand his frustration, justifiably so, but if he communicates in person as I perceive it here, well...

I see it as hes more or less getting to the point with his students about the rules, because hes had enough of students not listening and not caring.
