With one company my husband was with, the onguard system with that braking deal when the eye thought he was going to hit a bridge, a line, a vehicle, a post, whatever and then would throw on the brakes, it would go into as a hard braking and safety would call about it. Usually it was in a day or too and they would get it settled; he never had to go in for safety issues on this deal. He was a trainer and the trainee's hits would go on him too.

You are right about the companies taking all of the skill of a driver away from them and being able to feel what the truck is doing. With all the navigation stability and onguard, they have actually made trucks a lot more unsafe. You're going up an incline on a hill and the onguard detects a railing and hits the brakes, you loose any momentum you had and end up creeping up the hill; what about the poor soul behind you?

Time to bail ship it sounds like before they do ding you.

We get them ... And they are BS! We also have the On Guard system and it has sent critical events for front end collisions and following distances... It's the same distance that it (when turned on) keeps the truck at, but if we are doing the same distance it's beeping and after a while (one minute??) it will do a critical event... We even had the head of safety call us about them! That On Guard will trigger on big birds in the road, other cars exiting the freeways etc... We got a dash cam now so if at any time he wants to dispute our driving skill, we say BRING it!! PS ... we drive for Central Refrigerated

I've also got the OnGuard system on my truck, and while it does hit the brakes hard once in a blue moon, it has never initiated a critical event report. Once time at Schneider, I was bobtailing to a shipper, and it was raining. Older woman pulled out of a driveway of a business in front of me, and I had to hit the brakes hard, locking up the drives on the wet pavement. The CE notice got sent to my DM, and I got a message inside of five minutes to call her. Told her what happened, and that was that. No muss, no fuss.

I guess I should say he has it on his truck now with company he is at now. It too goes off for no reason, ghost lines, etc. It is always making the beeping noises, etc. If you ask me just the beeping is annoying and very distracting, esp if it is going off for no reason. But that is what everyone is stuck with now because of insurance purposes. It is like training wheels that don't want you to do anything.

I've read all of these posts and there is one thing I don't get. What points are you referring to in regard to a Qualcom? This must be strictly a company thing because at my company's safety department there are no "points" assessed for Qualcom critical events. How are you relating critical event records with DOT inspections and assessed points?

Critical Event?! They can kiss my white ###. If I have to slam on the brakes to avoid an accident, and safety is going to be upset with that, then that is not a company I need to work for.
