Well then you should park for 34 and tell the company it's because you just know it's not possible.

Or you could actually pay attention to what people have been saying about the recap. You say you were or paper before. You must know what the recap is.

Slim; Can you post a pic of your 8 days? I think you're confused with how recap works and having your current HOS would help one of us explain it to you.

Well... I think I start to understand how it works. If I'd finish my 3 hours yesterday so I must take 34 hrs restart, but since next week starts today that means my log shifts to next 8 days and I get extra hours from last week since I was off duty last Thursday about 18 hours and then start to drive again.

Thank you for giving me some clues to make things a bit clear of how HOS and elog works..

We've been "using" e-logs for about 20 months, still "officially" on paper....but we are trying to get our paper and elec logs to match ....
We use Quallcomm, so I am having trouble understanding where any confusion would come from. The machine tells you everything you need to know...without thinking. Even with using an 8-2 split sleeper, the machine tells you what you have available, and the notation for what is coming off at midnight (hours gained) and the hours gained in 2 days....how can anyone not know where they stand?

Running the I-5, and our runs have plenty of time...e-log doesn't effect us, but using that back east on I-95 or Chicago and such....I can easily see where I would prefer having paper to be able to "crunch" my time into better blocks instead of having the box track my every minute.

It is much more convenient not having to maintain the paper every day...just push the button when you stop and not worry about place and time!

You never have to take the 34. When you used up those 3 hours, you wait till midnight for the "fall off" hours to come available. (24 hour clock runs 0001-2359) A log book is never ending so to speak, it runs everyday, 365 days a year...so no matter when your company pay week begins and ends, that does not start your "new week" as far as looking at your 11-14-70.

Let me try and make this simple:
You have 70 hours to use in 8 days. On the ninth day, the hours you worked on day 1 would fall off the total used and come available again on day 9. And the "roll" keeps going.

Total up the hours worked (Lines 3 and 4) subtract that number from 70. That answer is the number of hours available.

Now using a recap....(photo back before we had a 34 restart)....
Put your worked hours in the first column. (HOURS WORKED TODAY)
Second column: (TOTAL HOURS ON DUTY LAST 7 DAYS) This is a running total of the previous 7 days.
Third column: (TOTAL HOURS AVAILABLE TOMORROW 70 HOURS MINUS COLUMN ONE) Subtract the amount in column 1 from 70
Fourth column: (TOTAL HOURS ON DUTY LAST 8 DAYS)
*anyone find a "mistake" in some addition?*

The log I was using in that photo was for hauling fuel....100 air mile radius and start and end each day at terminal, so we would have an 80 hour work week, unless like in the winter, we would have to run into NV to get to June Lake and Mono Lake from Sacramento...so that time would run us on a 70 hour week. In the winter they don't do snow removal over Monnitor Pass, it just closes....so we had to run Interstate logs.

    Not quite.

Let's say it was only 3 days that count and that you can't work more than 30 hours in any 3 day period.

    Tuesday you work 12 hours.
    Wednesday you work 9 hours.

    That's a total of 21 hours.
Since you can work 30 in 3 days you subtract what you worked in the first 2 days to see what you have left for day 3
    30 - 21 = 9 so you can work 9 hours on Thursday.

Thursday Day 3 you only end up working 8 hours. You still had one hour left but didn't use it.

Now on Friday need to figure out how many hours you can work. Because it's a 3 day period you need to add what you used the previous 2 days. 9 hours Wednesday and 8 hours Thursday. That's a total of 17 hours. 30 - 17 = 13 hours that you can Friday.

We didn't count the 12 hours you worked on Tuesday because now that it's Friday Tuesday isn't part of the 3 days that count.

That's what it would be like if we could work 30 days in a 3 day period.

Since it's 70 hours in an 8 day period when we get to the 9th day we don't count the first day anymore.

    Hope that helps.
