When I leased on with LS they asked me if I'd like that critical event monitoring for free. I was like no way do I want you all calling me when I need to brake hard.
I believe, deep down, they are tracking hard brakes and over speeds anyway.Mr.X and dannythetrucker Thank this. -
Might be a hackers paradise someday! The outlaws will adapt, they always do. Me, Im gonna just finish putting in my time, like an old dog just waitin to get kicked.

those critical events are being recorded by the ECM whether you have it on the qualcomm or not. So there really is no privacy, no way to hide it. I think most carriers understand an incident can happen to anyone, they may want it on just to make sure you are okay.

When I was leased to Triple Crown Services last year they started watching our hard braking events and after each event ,you had to answer to the terminal manager why. Then after the 3rd one you had to do a conference call with safety! (yuck) They claimed that rear ending accidents were on the rise and wanted to nip it before it got out of control. After 6 months of monitoring, the rear ending accidents went down 88% I was not happy about them monitoring my trucks and drivers but it seemed to help weed out the tailgaters that would have cost big wrecks costing big $$$ and downtime just my 2 cents

The bottom line is that it should be by the discretion of the driver to edit his logs ; isn't that the point of responsibility

the ecm records lots of data how you drive if you guys didn't know. overall fuel mileage, idle percentage, high idle time, overheats, time in top gear, hard brakes as mentioned, top speed.
so yah, if you've ever let her fly going down a grade it's on there. you heavy footed, on there, overheated, take the scenic route, might as well tell. I'm mostly familiar with Cummins ISX but I think others record same types of things.
