We just did a run from NJ to WA. Horrible wind for almost half of the 3000 miles. I tried everything to get the best mpg and at times it was impossible to get more than 5.5 mpg. Ultimately the best cruising place was 64mph@1510 rpm and we ended the trip on 7.1 mpg average. I really feel the D12 likes the higher rpm. So try that. Unfortunately there are a lot of d12's that have been spec'd with 3.42 rears which really drag the mpg down. The best rear for the d12 is 3.55 or 3.58, if you have anything else your fighting the battle handicapped.
Cheapest mods are block the egr cross over pipe, cut out the restrictor plate and get a full flow muffler.

Where can I get the flow flow muffler
from, sounds interesting.

Bloody iPad keeps trying to insert words or change the spelling. Typo corrected.

Im at 7.1 on my current trip also! I'm not completely sold on blocking egr just yet, I've looked into it quite a bit but there are still a couple concerns in my mind. As far as the muffler and restrictor place that will be taken care of when I get. But, if those two will give me gains then why not remove the epg completely?

LOL
you watch motogp? -
Walker makes one. Should be able to get it thru napa. Never heard of motogp

when I can ...plus the Le Mans series, also big on F1. Cheer for Lotus as I have a 77 Lotus at home. Wrenching on it during my home time is my man theorpy. Beer in hot tub is my relaxation

Pretty sure, but maybe wrong, when at speed the EPG does not restrict the exhaust flow until you engage it. Personally I would not want to be running around without an engine/exhaust brake. Also your engine warm up time will increase as the EPG closes some during a cold start to aid getting to operating temps faster.Helowrenchturn2 Thanks this.

Thought u mite be cheering for Cal Crutchlow, on that satellite Yamaha.

i would still have an engine brake just would disable the epg. They are two separate things that work together. I don't use either one that much anyway. You are correct that it is open going down the road but if you look inside of the whole contraption you'll see it is a literal maze for the exhaust to get out. As far as engine warm up I really don't see the need for it, not for where I run anyway, other than engine health. I'll just wait a bit longer for it to heat
