Does anyone know roughly if this truck is worth the asking price just at quick glance? Is this Mack model and the particular engine in it known for any major recurring issues? Is 2012 a good or bad year for the DEF systems? I mean I realize DEF is just bad all around but some do seem to be better than others. Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Get the one with the Maxi torque engine. Just don't get the dynatard.

They had camshaft problems with them.

The thermodyne might be a little small for what you're doing.

When you find one that has this transmission you got it.

If you get this one let us know how you like it.

You can Google heavy truck sales in Covington Tn. Dons?
There also used to be one in Memphis with lots of trucks.
Search sights on companies with lots of trucks like them. You can get a rough idea of what it is worth real quick.
No replacement for seeing them in person.

I liked the old quadruplex, you always had the right gear when you needed it. Just unhandy shifting the compound through the steering wheel. Moved lots of big iron with it , 1967 R-600 250hp quadruplex 44 Mack rears , slow but sure. Top unladen speed 62 mph but , I got there and back. Gee whiz that other shift pattern favors a 1000 piece puzzle , not sure if I got enough time left to master that?

In parking lot trailing ( that was one lap around the the parking lot with someone that could shift it ) I was told if you ever miss that shift you will never get it in any gear. Me myself and I thought B/S. I will get it in some gear.
Stopped at the end of the interstate ramp and started from the beginning.

So the Mp8 engine is basically a Volvo D13.

Injector cups are a known issue. 11-13 are problematic with the emissions issues.
I would check to see if the venturi tube has been updated along with the delta p sensor. Typically they come unpainted and will be black. But if it's still red like the rest of the engine that's gonna be about 500ish just in parts alone.

Other known issue is oil cooler cover has been updated. If you start to see a leak by the egr cooler more then likely you will need that done at some point.

Double idler gear failure .... don't see thus discussed much but it can happen at any mileage. My d13 made it to 1.34 million miles before failure but I was also doing 12.5k oil changes and had zero damage to the mains and rod bearings. ( sustained high oil temps seem to be the culprit in the demise of the double idler gear roller bearings )

I'm pretty sure that's a made up gear pattern. LOL

I think the Econodyne was the 237 or the Maxidyne? @Brettj3876 probably knows.

I think the thermodyne was somewhere around 175 horsepower, lol. They were in the B model Macks.

Is that the quadruplex that I posted? Mack had a lot of really cool heavy duty compound Transmissions.

They said it's from a three stick Kenworth. I don't know why they have it shown like that but apparently one is a main shifter one is a high low and one is a splitter.

Watch this guy shift it! That's insane!
