Bought my first truck. I'll be leasing to a company, but first they need apportioned registration. Bought the truck in Indiana, my company is registered in NY. Can I register in Indiana / Kentucky under my company or do I have to drive back to NY? Can I legally drive back to NY with basic dealer temp registration? What are my options?

It really needs to be registered where the company is located.
Example Werner is located in Omaha, NE, but they have terminals in say TN. They still run NE plates.

The company your leasing to should let you run under their plates.. is that not an option?

They did offer to register under them. They are located in Chicago area. But then again, can I legally run to Chicago with basic dealer temp reg to get their plates?

I mean I have before and never got caught. There are threads about this subject all over the forum. The dealer should've asked for insurance out the door. What did you tell him?

Well the legal way to do it would be to get a temporary moving permit. You live in NY so I would call NY and see how much a temporary permit is and how many days it covers. Some states offer them and some do not...

I live in VA and they offer a temporary moving permit, which is a paper plate that has a temporary registration.

Do they email it to you and you just have to print it out or what?

You can register your truck with irp in your home state. Whatever state you have your business licensed in is where you register your truck. Not a big deal.

As was said, you can also have the motor carrier supply the base plates. They can mail them to you along with your cab card.

I prefer running under my own plates. But that is a personal preference.
