will this work for a single driver running only Canada. start 2pm drive to 7:30pm, 1 hr off then drive again 8:30 to midnight. Now can i continue with rest the driving hrs left? or I have to shut it down at midnight?

Maybe someone can help me as how can I log my trip running single going from Toronto to Calgary and return. lets say I leave 4 pm today.

You have hours available as you have not used up your 13 or 16 hour clocks.

Leave @ 4pm and drive for 13 hours with breaks in between. Each brake MUST be half hour minimum. Let's say you take 2 one hour brakes so your 13 hours driving PLUS your two hours break time and it is now 7am. Because you had two hours off the day before (in half hour or more increments) you only need 8 hours off so @ 3pm you are ready to go again for another 13 hours.

Calgary to Toronto is 33 to 36 hours driving time.

Hey guys, need some help on this one.

I have been running on oilfield exemption in Alberta. My clear understanding is you can only use this if you are delivering 'stuff' to an endpoint in the oilfield.

So I am running bulk LN2, and moved from delivering to an endpoint to running a shuttle from Fort Sask to one of our silos. My understanding is that I need to move off 'oilfield exemption' onto one of the cycles, in our case cycle 1.

    Here's the question:

What do I need for a reset to move from Oilfield Exemption to Cycle 1?
What do I need for a reset to move from Cycle 1 back to Oilfield Exemption?

I am currently half way through a 36 reset to bring my Cycle 1 hours back to zero, but I would rather restart work tomorrow on oilfield exemption if I can. But I REALLY need to understand the costs to my logbook to switch back and forth.

If you are sure you know the answer, please post. If you are just guessing....

    Thanks!!!!!!

this part screws me up also. thought i heard you have to take 72 hours off to get back on cycle 1, but can switch to exemption any time. can you phone safety and see what they say. i'm curious also.

72 hours required to switch from oilfield exemption to regular cycle. No hours required to go the other way.
(sections 24 to 29 and 49 to 54 are the rules re: cycles)

Also, not so sure about your "clear understanding" of the oilfield exemption only applying to "endpoint deliveries."
The regulation says nothing about the exemption being specific to oilfield deliveries, only regarding operation "within the field services sector."

That is the language from Standard 9, however you should consult the actual permit (a copy of which should be in your truck) regarding any specifics.

Thank you, this is very helpful.

I am working from the list below which is not permitted in my interpretation, which in turn comes from here:

    http://www.transportation.alberta.ca/Content/docType276/Production/Oil_Well_Service_Vehicle_Cycle_Exemption_Permit_Application.pdf

    • Moving any materials, goods or equipment between two shops, storage yards, or other facilities, neither of which are an oil well site;

It seems clear as I am moving material between two storage yards, but I confuse easily. :biggrin_25513:

    Thanks

It looks like you are correct on that point which is why I suggested referencing the actual permit. As stated at the beginning of the permit...
And thanks for the link to that... although your link doesn't work. :biggrin_25523:

An extra space between 2 pees I think. Story of my life. I will dig the permit out of the truck in the morning and check the fine print. This could be quite expensive if we get it wrong. Interesting that the company doesn't seem too worried about the whole thing.

If I read this right, I am at risk of a pretty big fine, they are at risk of a really big fine, and they could lose the permit due to inadequate training of their named employees.

Surprising its all so casual. The HOS course I did a few weeks ago refused to even touch on the permit. Said it was too variable between companies. So that was useful... :biggrin_25516:
