What years did Cat produce Acert engines? And how much work would I have to do to properly tune one? I'm looking to buy a new truck and i'm trying to find out more info on the C 15 motor.
2004-present. Might be a few 2003's running around but who knows. If they haven't already been done you need to dump the OEM exhaust. Then you can replace the factory fuel filter head for a higher flowing one (someone probably had the part number if you need it) and that's where the cheap stuff stops. Then you can have PDI reflash the ECM or buy the BullyDog programmer for more power or fuel economy. Don't let anyone fool you, they're great engines. I have an '06 and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.
A agree I have 2 6NZ's and they run awesome. But I wouldn't put one up against a good tuned acert, you might get embarrassed.
Yes they make the Bully Dog Downloader for almost every heavy duty truck engine on the market. But they started with the engines that were the most popular and have since really advanced the technology. To find the product just do a search for the "BullY Dog Big Rig Downloader".
My 06 acert runs great, it out pulls my 6nz all day long fuel milege is in the 5.8 to 6.2 range running flatbed at max gross, i have had very few issues with it and would buy another one, every engine has there issues, i've owned detroits and cummins and i would not buy another one ever again eccept an n14 my 2 troits where junk alot less hasle with the cats and i have no issue with service.
