Sounds like you're starting off with a mess already. I would clear up the paperwork and make sure it's true. If any company thinks you lied on any form it's over before you even start. Second, I'd make sure a DOT doctor will certify you to drive. You'd hate to shell out all that money THEN find out you can not drive.

I don't think you'll have a problem but I'm not a DOT doctor. But I've seen drivers have some of their digets cut off so they could hold the steering wheel. You just have to make sure you can pass the medical and not just this one time. It's something that will hang with you forever. Good luck and I hope you clear everything up.

I got the fmcsa spe certificate today. I wasn't sure if I was going to get it or not since I never heard from fmcsa. It's a temporary one so after I get my license I have to fax a copy of the front and back of my license then I will get the actual 2 year certificate. Hopefully in two years I will not need it. My doctors told me my nerves should be healed by then or alot better where I could move better. I drove today for the first time. I practiced starting off in the school's skill yard, and backing and driving in circles. The instructor was suprised how well I did and let me go out on the road. I guess he was worried about my ability. I did okay just have to get the hang of shifting quicker and double clutching. My downshifting needs works also. I guess not to bad for the first day driving. The truck is a '95 kenworth t600. The brakes on that thing are super sensitive. I thought every one was going to go through the window. When I got back to the school they let me back in the truck and trailer into the yard. The school is at the end of a culdesac so you have to whip it around and then back it in around a gate. I want to get in the T2000 that the school has. I was told the brakes were less sensitive. Thank You all for the help so far. I really apreciate it.

I am glad that you have your DOT medical card issue resolved. If you would like, start a thread in our subforum for trucking schools. You can post about your experiences in training. Best of Luck!

I am trying to get an SPE also. What did you have to send them to get a temporary certificate and what do you need to do to get the permanent (2 year) one? Thanks.
