Sorry if something I said offended you to the point that you feel the need to "hunt greatness against my company." I was merely stating the facts that tarping is a way of life for open deck work. To be clear though, I don't have an issue attracting employees. I was only stating the facts that it seems like we live in a world now days that people (not everyone) don't seem to care anymore.
Think about it. If you own your own truck, you take care of it right? Lets say you ran it for a few years with no issues at all, like CaptainDave said, he took care of the truck in a way that people thought it was fresh off the showroom floor. Then you put someone else in the truck and they trash it and your maintenance cost start to soar because of carelessness etc. I am sure that would bother anyone.
Trucking is definitely a lifestyle choice. If someone comes into the profession wanting to be paid like a doctor then maybe they should have chosen to go to medical school instead. I would love to pay millions of dollars out to our drivers, give them all paid vacations, buy them all houses and new cars, but the margins in trucking are just not there for that. Every time we turn around, there is another regulation or requirement that makes our cost go up.
