I have my own authority and own a 2 flat's and 2 vans. If they want it tarped I add on 100 bucks done over not negotiable. Not wasting two or three hours making less than minimum wage tarping. I have two trucks pulling flats and never have a hard time keeping both loaded. Right now van freight is paying the same or better than flats. If I didn't have dedicated flatbed customers I would only pick and choose the best flats and run just Vans 90% of the time.

Super truckers claim it never takes them longer then 30 minutes to tarp.

I hated tarping in the southern heat.

The reality is most brokers don’t pay to tarp unless it’s a unique or non average load. Tarping is supposedly figured into the rate. However I believe it isn’t. I tarp maybe 20% of my loads and when I do tarp, I don’t mind. Company I’m with pays company guys $100 to tarp.
