Question about Hansen & Adkins

    Down south you will probably do better with USAL or Hansen Adkins. Cooper has short haul terminals in Atlanta or Birmingham but I don't think either are hiring and short freight doesn't pay great usually. My buddy runs for USAL and made $106,000 last year, but he runs hard. I here some locations for Hansen do well and others not as well as each location has different freight rates and their drivers are paid percentage. I have heard Hansen in the Bimingham area pays well, but not sure which one.

    H&A and USAL are the two I've been studying the most.USAL web site seems to have more info than H&A. USAL 414 trucks seems to be smaller but still growing.H&A says they have 1100 trucks.I've never worked percentage so I guess I would need to know how much they run empty.Or does miles ran even matter with them.Maybe it's all about how many cars you deliver.USAL says there training is longer than H&A.Dont know who trains better.Would be nice to hear from someone that worked at both.If y'all car hauler don't make it home for the 34 restart do you take it in a hotel or do you start recapping hours.I'm still on paper logs

    In my opinion, the hardest thing for a new driver is load configuration. That's the part that takes the longest to learn and changes all the time with new vehicles coming out. As far as training, USAL does a 5 week training program. The first week is orientation, the 2nd and 3rd week is spent at one of the training locations with trainers. During these 2 weeks you will load and unload the truck over and over, you will learn a lot about load configuration and will learn how to operate the truck as far as working the hydraulics. At the end of the third week you will be issued your truck and assigned a driver trainer (normally someone out of the terminal that you will be running out of). The driver trainer will ride with you in your truck for the 4th and 5th week. He will be teaching you everything on your truck, from the Qualcomm to how it operates to driving habits. You will also hit a few different terminals and learn the different places that we load. Your running real loads during these two weeks so it's real world training. At the end of the 5th week you will be released on your own but you will still be limited to only terminals with load masters for your first 90 days so someone is always there to help you out, answer questions, or just make sure your load is good and not going to tear something up when you leave.

    Can you explain.Do you start at .56cpm then there are 5 Stages you can progress through to get to .70 CPM.Do they let you know how well your progress or what you need to do to move up through the stages.Do some terminals pay different CPM.Any idea what family health care cost a week.Thank for the info

    Yes the load master is at all of our larger terminals and they help anyone who needs it. Busy now but will try and give more detailed later

    I read one of your older post and you said USAL pays load,stop,reload pay.So how does that pay work.Do you get $5 a car to load at shipper,then $5 a car delivered at a stop and $5 to reload any cars you had to put back on the trailer.I saw it said that backhauls were $22 a car.Are the load,stop and reload pay the same for backhauls.Is it correct that you are eligible for 2 weeks vacation,holiday and personal days after 6 months.How much sick leave a year do you have.I get 90 days a year.The amount we get paid for sick pay is based on years of service.lve never had to use it,but It's nice to have if you get injured.What would health insurance run for a 3 person family.I don't care to be home during the week,but I do average a 48 hr weekend every weekend.Is the weekend time possible at USAL. If you miss a weekend are they paying for you to do a 34hr at a hotel.Your post have been very informative.I just want to be certain I understand you right.Thanks in advance,just trying to compare USAL to what I have now,so I can keep the family happy

    It's $5 per car to load nothing to unload other that $5 per stop. If your load goes to 2 dealers then you get $15 for skid drops, one for pickup location and one for each dealer. Say it's a 9 car load, you get $45 to load it. You normally don't have many reloads but say you had 2 reloads, that's another $10. That's $70 plus .60 or .64 cpm depending on the terminal. If it's a back haul then everything is still $5 except for loading which is $22 per car so $223 plus mileage for the same load of it's a back haul. I hate to have to reload so I try my best to load my load in a way where I don't have to. All of last year a may have had 5 or 6 reloads for the year.
    Yes you get 2 weeks after 6 months. After that you get 3 weeks a year. That's vacation, sick, or pto. It's not designated anymore, you just get 3 weeks to use how you want.
    As far as weekend, that's kind of up to you. They want you to run out your hours every week, meaning at least 60 of your 70 or close to it. I try to do close to my 14 everyday and Friday afternoon I'm done. Last year I got in a few times on Saturday morning and left out a few times on Sunday afternoon but was never gone the whole weekend. As long as you run hard Monday through Friday then your fine taking Saturday and Sunday off for a restart.
    As far as a 34 on the road, they pay for your hotel but nothing else. Unless your broke down and when that happens you have to give them the first 4 hours. After that you get $25 per hour.
