I'm glad I don't have that problem, since I only have a 6-speed in my pickup truck. :laughing6:

Ive heard some now feature 10 speed autos.

Im not exactly in love with that concept for these small (No offense please...) vehicles.

The one pickup I had was a 5.9 hemi gas engine on a hurst 5 manual and it would be the greatest truck for being a truck hauling wood what with the large tires etc I had back there.

The one I really would like to get is the little 300 cummins on a 1500 rpm shift point with a 5 speed manual. Roughly the 01 and newer year someday. It matches running a big truck really well without the bother of plugs or fluid.

No not really, sorry guys but every truck is the same but different.

The differences are in the nuances of things like where the pedal starts to engage the truck or how much wear is in the shifter.

The patterns, where the pedal is and so on are all the same on every truck. The way you drive is always the same, you have to slip the clutch in order to get it moving and shift upwards to gain speed.

BUT I know others may say this is wrong. However for the past three years till I was hurt in November, I would drive at least four different trucks a week, sometimes as many as 12, all of them different but all of the same.

Yes, I taught a couple vets "how" to drive, one of them was very very good and a little arrogant. I warned him to do the road test by the book but when he was on his road test, he did what I told him not to do, float the gears. The examiner who I've know for years said to him "are you sure about that shift" and as soon as he said "yep" the examiner said "you failed". He got it the second time around doing it by the book with the examiner. So far those two drivers have logged over 300k each working for me and have gotten their safety awards every quarter without missing one.

Also, some motors like to rev quickly, others not so much. That requires a subtle adjustment by the driver when shifting.

Not a problem for an experienced driver (Though it may catch you out once in a while as you first drive it), but it can be very frustrating and confusing for a novice.
