Well the day is done, nothing was broken, no tickets, no accidents.
my rider was a cool guy, but didn't get much advice here and there. Mostly he said you know what your doing I know nothing, slept, talked to the bros, etc. I ran half the route it went ok, one load was the first full heavy load I've ever had, everything was different there. But we made it. Dispatch pulled me off at an exit about 50 miles out and put me with another driver and sent me to go pick up an otr truck and bring it back to the yard. I really enjoyed that experience of stretching my legs a bit (however little it was) the trip, pretrip, and enroute inspection took around 4 hrs. The truck had been sitting a while, had some small issues so I gave it a good look and let it idle a while.
Hopefully my regular trainer is back tomorrow, he really goes in depth on things.
anywho, thanks all for the encouragement.

Yay! You made it! We knew you would.
Pmracing Thanks this. -
Local driving is a lot harder than OTR. If you can make it local, you can easily make it OTR.

I tell our OTR drivers I am home nightly. They say, "Really? I want your job!"
Then I tell them I drive Chicago traffic 12 hours a day and before I can finish they say, "Never mind!"
Many times more stressful than 8 hours rollin' along a boring highway.

I didn't have too much trouble, I had three short deliveries and return one truck to a dealer - I put in a full 14 hours of work.
Wednesday I spent more time in traffic than I did actually doing anything else. I put in a 14 hour day. I spent two hours going 4 miles.
Today I spent time dealing with idiots who thought we were still flooded. More time in traffic, more time waiting for people to make up their minds and the hassle of having to deal with stop and go traffic.
While I was going home tonight, back to a flooded basement, a car that is stuck in the ditch and my wife who I have to have help me throw more stuff out tonight from the basement, I really wish I was back doing my OTR work. -
That aint me.

I can say local ain't easy, day starts with waking up at 3am, getting ready then driving to the yard, clocking in around 4:45, running until 6:30-6:45. Get home around 7:30 shower eat crash around 9pm.
reminds me of those old oil field hours when I was younger lol.
