I would still take the job. A lot of LTL's will start you off in a straight truck for their dock to driver/apprenticeship program. It's a great opportunity to work for a great company.
If it's the ODFL terminal that I think it is...it's probaly better to start you off in a straight truck anyways. You have to look at it from the TM's perspective. He's willing to take a gamble and hire someone with no experience. There are drivers with years of experience begging to land a gig with ODFL. Baby steps. You have learn to crawl before you walk. Jersey and NYC is no place for a newbie with no experience to be doing P&D work with a tractor trailer. JMHO![]()

Ima have to agree with you on what you said and the ODFL is the one in Boonton nj
and do you know what the pay rate would be ?Sho Nuff Thanks this. -
Run, don't walk. Who cares if it's a straight truck? Smaller, easier to get in and out of places = gravy. Plus you will get on the seniority list so when a p&d becomes available that you qualify for you can bid.
Good luck!Sho Nuff, dwells40 and Jmelendez1223 Thank this. -
I understand that but what if i decide to move to a different state ? And what about expierence wise let say for a example if a other company is gonna offer me more and is a trucking company they gonna look at my prior work and say u only rode straight trucks And have no tractor trailer exp you get my point ?

if offered at the interview, GRAB the job, and run with it..it's getting your foot into the door. sooner than you think, you will be doing city work, and doing well.
good luck to you.FlaSwampRat and Jmelendez1223 Thank this. -
if you move to another state, and the have a terminal, you transfer over...easy peasy...
i think by that time, you would have been driving a tractor-trailerFlaSwampRat and Jmelendez1223 Thank this. -

OD is a career so try to get in where you want to live. All another company is gonna ask is if you were a driver, not what you drove. I can pretty much guarantee that no other company is gonna offer you more than you will make there. Are there a few exceptions yes but you will make a killing there and be able to retire early if you play your cards right.Sho Nuff, Jmelendez1223 and buddyd157 Thank this.
