I like the landing gear down. Great suggestion.
The rocking of the cab can be deceiving. Its on air bags to the frame plus the suspension air bags, so it can lean a long way before there is any danger of going over.
As far as trying to drive... sadly more dangerous than sitting. Much more apt to blow over moving.
Question about parked in high winds

I'm sitting in the summit ret area in Wyoming on I-80 westbound right before Laramie. I am almost fully loaded and stuck in wind gusts up to 80. I am a new driver and my truck is rocking like crazy in the wind. It's really scaring me. There is literally no where for me to go. What are the chances it will blow me over. This really sucks. I'm freaking out.

Do you have the Wyoming 511 app? ALWAYS check the wind speeds for all of the weather stations before you proceed past Cheyenne. You would have been far better off sitting there than at the rest area aside from the fact that it was too dangerous to drive up there in the first place. At this point, all you can do is put the landing gear down. You say you're fully loaded so that should help a lot.Bean Jr. and hope not dumb twucker Thank this.

Are you fully loaded with something that puts you close to 80k or fully loaded trailer of styrofoam? Big difference, if your heavy your not going over your just not sleeping much tonight. Good football game on to watch next couple hours.Bean Jr. Thanks this.

You'll be fine in that lot. It is only about 44 mph gusts right now though, if you can make it down into the truck stops in Laramie that would be ideal, there won't be any wind in the canyon.

You won’t blow over being fully loaded parked is pretty heavy. People don’t realize how crazy winds are til they actually feel it in Wyoming. Like another person said it’s the cab on air bags that makes it rock more. I pulled a Rocky set at 104k in that wind. While I felt like a pinball it wasn’t an issue. But it moved me around like nothing. Pretty crazy. I wouldn’t drive with a long box without max weight close to 80k total in that wind though.hope not dumb twucker Thanks this.

I have 44,437.11lbs of Coors beer on my trailer right now. I have never traveled out here before. So I was completely ignorant to all of this. This wind is really scaring me. It's really moving me a lot. I'm also worried about the trucks ability to keep me warm. I've already had the truck in the shop to fix the bunk heater once.Bean Jr. Thanks this.

Thank you for responding. Right now my gross weight is 77,640.11 according to my CAT scale weigh in.Bean Jr. Thanks this.

I am 77,640.11 gross weight right now. I asked my company if I should put my landing her down for added stability but they said no I would be fine. I understand that truckers are used to this. My dad, and many other family members were too but this is my first experience with it and it is really scary. I guess especially because I'm in the middle of nowhere if something were to happen I would be in real trouble with how cold it is outside.

I would crank the landing gear down if it will make you feel better. That should keep the trailer from rocking so much.
If you have 44k on I don’t think you have to worry about blowing over, but I’m not in your situation. Like what’s already been said, if it’ll make you feel better it doesn’t take that long to crank them down.
Just don’t forget to crank them back up before you take off!!!!!DoveStories Thanks this.
