As long as you realize that going over the road is a very high possibility then it won't come as big of a shock to you and your family. If you are prepared to do so then it will be much easier on you. A lot of drivers drop $6000 on school with the plan of driving local or regional and then when it doesn't happen they are out a lot of time and money because they are not willing to stay away from home for a couple months at a time.

A friend is on his last fun for Roehl... he is on his way back to turn in his truck. He was with them for about 8 months but his ultimate goal was a local gig. He was just hired by a steel company back home in DE, home every night, off weekends, delivering to job sites... union job.

The point is every time he went home, which was every couple of weeks, he was looking for local work. He kept after it and found one. If you do go OTR it does not necessarily need to be a year or two. Look every tike you go home, talk to other drivers, the jobs are out there.

Me, I love the open road... I stay out three months at a time.

Well I have a local gig but its not really a driving job its more of a mostly moving stuff with some driving an automatic tractor to and from the site locally for the most part. I received my CDL training and road test for free so I was lucky there.

There is good and bad in everything. I am 51 so the no kids is probably a permanent thing... everything in life is a comprimise. You have to give up somethings to gain others.

    31third Thanks this.
