Finally got fed up with my boss and my job. Told my boss I'm quitting Mon and would like to be back in the yard by wed eve if possible. I'm getting back to the yard Wed but now he's saying I have to do another 2 day run because it was booked before I quit. What would happen if I parked the rig in his yard Wed and walked. Can he charge me for that load? I'm on 1099 but never agreed to take that load. Quitting because he keeps pressuring his drivers to drive on pc all the time which is bs! Doing that 2 day run would completely screw up my Christmas vacation.

He could drive the truck himself and deliver it. Or find someone else to drive it. Or let the load sit there and rot, or reschedule a new delivery appointment for God knows when.

I quit like that before. Once. Whatever. Let the chips fall where they may. To this day, I regret quitting in a very unprofessional manner. Not that it cost me anything with future employment (started own authority), just know I am better than that. I would not want a driver to quit like that on me. However I wouldn't ask a driver to do something I wouldn't want be comfortable doing either. It's your call.

Maybe try working out a compromise and say you pick up the load and meet another driver halfway then head back to yard and be done. That would sound reasonable to me.

Well, you agreed to run illegal for him by being on a 1099. Why do you think he will pay attention to any other laws?

He will do whatever he wants to. Doesn't matter what the laws says. For future reference you might not want to get a job at a company that the very first thing they tell you by being 1099 is they don't care about laws.

And since you’re 1099 you don’t really have anyone to complain to when he decides to keep the money he owes you.

Mr @Curly88, if he holds the last check, will that mess you up?

If I were ready to walk, the last paycheck wouldn’t stop me. I can quit at 7:59 and have another job at 8:01

Rideandrepair, stwik and lester Thank this.

You’d better just put Christmas on hold this year.. somebody needs you to do another load.

If you worked for a widget manufacturer and wanted to quit, would you keep working until they had no more orders?
    Ain't gonna happen.
    They will figure something out.

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

No, not getting the last paycheck wouldn't hurt me financially just annoy me.
I have to admit I was on a little rant but now that I calmed down a little I started looking at my options. I can get that last load delivered and still get a late flight headed east but it will definitely be my last load. I've learned a lot of valuable lessons this last year!
I don't see what the big deal is about 1099s. I've been on 1099s most of my working years and never had a problem paying my taxes. The KGB always got there 25-30%

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

The main thing about 1099 in a situation like this is that you have no recourse other than court if he decided not to pay you. And there’s no such thing as a 1099 employee. For him to pay you as such you both are breaking the law. And like it was said above, he’s breaking a big law right off the bat and then you’re expecting him to be on the up and up about you quitting?

Rideandrepair, ZVar, Matt43324 and 2 others Thank this.
