Ok thank you, looks like with CCC Transportation (in my area) I need to study for my HazMat too. -
They will give you the proper paperwork in school for it if you need it. it's just an extra 90$ on top of the 77 dollars to get cdl and hazmat.

Just don't get the impression that a prehire = a hire. Prehire just means that yes they got your application, yes you meet their requirements and yes they will be more then happy to look at your closely once you get your CDL, it does NOT mean you have a job. Schneider runs out of that area, closest operating center I'm aware of in Florida is our Atlanta OC. Would probably be able to get east coast regional and be home every weekend. They want you to have your HazMat and will actually pay for it. Just keep your receipt for it and they will reimburse you for it.

Ok thanks, I will keep that in mind, really looking for a local company once i get my CDL, it doesnt have to be a big trucking company, just a good job to make some money. I want to be home everynight with my wife and daughter. But if i really HAVE to go OTR, then yes, i would atleast like to be home every weekend. So thank you for your info! =) -
Hello all,
I'm new to this forum but wanted to let any prospective drivers know about my experiences with driver schools. Attended a school in Drumright, OK (just Google it). Decided to go there after extensive research of the schools in the OKC area. Many were a joke. Really! The instructors and staff are top notch and half the price of any other school! I even got a military veterans discount! If you are considering a school check this one out. I had several students in my class that were from other states (14 total & only 2 students per truck!). They are also recognized by PTDI and if you pass your CDL exam the first go round they will pay for your CDL! Hazmat is extra and on your dime though. Just wanted to let those of you that are considering a school to do your homework. They are not all the same. I paid for my training out of my own pocket, however, many students were sponsored by their company. -
Big Country 24:
If you are banking your employment opportunity with just that one company (local) then you are better off not joining this industry. There is a 95% chance you will do OTR before any company will touch you; therefore, if you are not prepared to do that then save your money, time and effort. VERY few companies will offer you a home every weekend deal. Recruiters will sell you on an idea but it may not be true. Rule of thumb...expect to be away from home 2 1/2 - 3 weeks at a time with 3-5 days home. Its the simple truth. Good luck! -
Not always,
some companies do things a little differently.........
Comcar is one of those companies..... -
Thanks! Yeah we're really looking at that company to apply for. The only reason I really want to go to Roadmaster is to help me get my CDL, that way i can go where ever i want. Like i'm wanting to go to Waste Management. They will hire with no experience. But what my problem here is that im going through the WIA program, and i think im going to have to do what they want. But i have news for them. -
Well, as a consumer of the WIA program, you have 100% of the choice where you want to attend (as long as the school is approved for WIA funds). They SHOULD give you three options but if you find them pushing one school then something is fishy...you have 100% of the option to choose!
