hey guys what exactly is sparky's cb doing to the radio's before shipping them. they list that all cb's are tuned and alligned but what does that mean? Is it anything that makes the cb illegal or shortens its life. Im a newbie here and have read about getting the cb "peaked" but i dont know if that is the same thing as "tuned"? Are both these fuctions legal? Is it safe on the radio? any info appreciated as i just ordered a new 29 from walmart but if i need to ill return it and get one from sparky if thats the way to go.

Any retuning of a radio is illegal unless it is dont to a factory drawings/spects.
As for shorting it's life thats unlikely unless you just flat open everything to max.
    Keep your walmart radio.

IF YOU REALLY FEEL YOU NEED POWER BUY A AMP .....

Sparky's CB's are all peaked for LOUD audio, and more POWER output. So his radios would be much louder and talk father than your Walmart CB out of the box. And his CB may even cost you less than Walmart. I think you would be happier with a Sparky radio.

how can they perform this service legally and still be in business? Is what they are doing damaging to the radio? Are they good techs and know what they are doing?

I doubt you can damage the radio however it is NOT legal
It is YOUR problem not the tech the FCC almost never goes after the tech
And they rarely go after the end user thats the fact .......

The FCC does not require a license to repair CB radios.

ok guys thanks...seems like its not really an issue then. Just wanted to make sure. Ill prob return the walmart and get a sparky's. Like the uniden 68 or cobra 25 a lil better for size reasons anyway.

I believe his "tune and alignment" just simply sets the radios to talk the loudest they can w/o distortion and also gets them dead set on frequency.

Sparkys a good guy to do biz with and will set you up right the first time, w/o selling you an overmodulated pile of trash.

How about Rolling Radios out of Richmond, VA? He does pretty darn good work and a better tune than Sparky, proven on the oscilloscope.

    AND ......

What can you see on a o-scope ? To do it right you need a sprectrum scope and better yet a IFR-1200S .... with a scope .....
