Hey All,
My brother and I are both starting CMV school/training next Monday. We are probably considered late bloomers with regards to trucking as he is 39 and I am 41 years old. Yeah, he was a cop and I am a former IT guy. Go figure!
Anyhow, we work well together (always have) so we want to explore the ins and outs of a team driving situation. Now before anyone jumps down my throat, I am not talking about tomorrow, or the next day, or six months from now! We have a long way to go to even get to that point. We are just doing an exercise in what "could be" one day. That being said.........
-Are all (or most) of the teams out there OTR? Is there such a thing as a team having a dedicated run or "out and back" situation?
-My bro and I both live within a few miles of the Rt.70/Rt.81 interchange in MD. which is a pretty rich trucking hub area. Could this be useful in fiding the right situation?
-Of the folks out there who have run teams, is the extra money worth it? How much higher in general (as a percentage) is the pay for teams?
Thanks for your thoughts on the topic, and I'll keep updating as we progress through training.
Best to all,
CE

Some LTL carriers (such as UPS freight and Old Dominion) have team "regional out-and-back" routes but I suspect these openings are provided to high seniority drivers. Although team California to North Eastern seaboard operations are plentiful at the right carrier and these can often be done inside of 7 days given good weather. But I suspect that may not be a good fit for you unless you could be assured 2 days off in between each load which may make that worthwhile for you.

STexan, thank you. That is more than I knew before! Best.

I've always wondered in teams if it's two guys who aren't related or in a "relationship" who gets the big bottom bunk?
-
Ha! Good question
In my case I don't really care 'cause it is my bro. We've shared blood, sweat and tears over the years. We'd just hot bunk if we had to.

My brother in law asked me to team with him and I said no because of the wanting the bottom bunk (I'm petty like that) but now with my wife wanting to drive with me I guess I'll share
