I have six vintage trucks and a ‘99’FL 60. I have them all registered Antique and for 26,000. Pull loaded trailers all the time with my stuff on them. No cdl required. No logs. As free as a retiree in a big Provost bus pulling a travel trailer behind it. Regular cheap liability insurance. I carry a copy of the regs and internal reg. codes that the TxDPS big bears use in every truck. They always learn something new when they pull me over. Lol.

My understanding is you will need to go to school to get your CDL. Gone are the days when you would just take any old truck and get your license. If you have to do that, find one that has a manual for the test. It does sound like you have any problems driving one, it's just having one to test in.

Here is a link to the ELDT training requirements for you to review.

Here in 14 days, I can go take the road test and finish the process.
Now the question is, can I get the freightliner up to snuff and just do it properly....Hmmmm -
Final note, since you had a CDL previously and have been exempted from the ELDT, inquire if your auto only restriction will also be grandfather away since anyone that took the skills test prior to 2015 wasn't subject to the auto only even if they took the test in an automatic equipped truck. You may not need to worry about the restriction at all.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
Again, No disrespect at all was meant.Bean Jr. and brian991219 Thank this. -
