Most places frown on you arriving early.
They may not be ready to receive the product yet due to space or manpower shortages.
Its not rocket science, 70 hours in any 8 day period.
Keep in mind short days only return short days when they drop off.

I'm pretty sure you drive for Schneider, so while the theory of running your 70 to the max and then resetting to make more money is sound, it doesn't work practically. I've found it's better (for me at least) to just keep running the recap. I'll run the loads I'm given, deliver as soon as I can and get on the next load. Sometime during the week I'll have short day and that allows my hours to 'catch up' so to speak. For example yesterday I had to deliver a load by 1100 but my next load wasn't ready until 1800, so I only used 5 hours of my 70 hour clock which makes up for the 11 I used the day before. You'll find what works best for you.

Layover pay is generally only when Schneider doesn't have a load assigned to you. I've had to fight (not to hard) to get layover when I get a pickup a day after I've made myself available. Talk to your DBL (if they're not to busy trying to make workflow to work).

I don't know how Schneider works but at my company I get layover pay anytime I sit longer than 15 hours. I am currently spending 3 nights in a hotel waiting for a trailer to be loaded that was dropped Wed afternoon. After 15 I am paid for 8, off 10, paid 8 continuing until I get moving again.

Its scheduled to be ready Saturday afternoon with a delivery appointment of 8 AM Wednesday 1900 miles away. I will try to get it rescheduled for a day earlier. If that happens great, I can move on to the next load. If not my income is still protected even if I sit.

Last time I ran this round trip they loaded me quicker with a tighter delivery window and I didn't get a restart in. I only had 8-10 hours to run bumping my 70 and wound up taking 12-14 hour breaks in the truck stop.

That sucked because I could have gotten 8 or so hours of layover pay on the delivery end had I had hours to run with only 10 hour breaks. If you get paid layover its best to run hard with 10 hours breaks.
