cplmac2, I have been following your posts and you seem to know your share about TMC. I have debating about who to go with, TMC or TransAm and it looks more and more to be TMC. Question for you. I am going to try and have my Haz-Mat before leaving for orientation, but is TMC forcing drivers to get Pass-Ports and TWIC cards?
Question about % vs. mileage and revenue to truck

At this point they are pushing but not forcing, I think before the end of the summer they will require it. From what I've been seeing carriers are moving in that direction pretty much across the board, it's just that not all of them are requiring their drivers to pay for it. Realistically if you are going to come to TMC you can probably expect it to be mandatory by the time you are done with training. It's a good idea to have these things for sure, it just sucks to have to pay for them. I have not seen a fleetwide message that says we HAVE to have them yet though.

Thanks cplmac2, I am at a toss-up between TransAm and TMC. This Monday I am supposed to call for one of them to set an orientation date. The one thing that I am impressed with on TMC is company drivers seem to have pride in their work and equipment. Being from Tenn., would there be alot of NYC runs for me. There has to be a reason why companies pay extra for this run. My guess is because it is a pain in the butt. What is your take on this and what is your thoughts between TMC and TransAm?

I had a pre-hire with TransAm too, but I wanted to do flatbedding and had heard good things about TMC on this forum. I really haven't heard much about TA on here but I haven't really looked into them much either. I haven't taken a load to NYC yet so I can't honestly answer that question past what I know from other drivers. NYC is a pain to get around in, TMC pays $100 if you drive in one of the NYC burrows. I'm getting what I consider to be decent miles from TMC (a little over 2000/wk) and I'm content with that. It's a slow economy and there are a LOT of companies where you won't get those miles.

Thanks again cplmac2. I am guessing being from Tenn., I may not see NYC to often if you haven't even seen it once. They said they would try to find me a trainer near my area where maybe I can get home once or twice during road training. Be nice if this happens, but I won't hold my breath. Be nice if I do get a weekend at least every two weeks. My wife will ride with me after the 90 day solo they require. Need one year and then there are a couple of companies back home that will hire me and get me home more often. Then again, TMC might be a good company to work for, especially if the economy picks up again, I might stay with them. Time will tell. Anyway, thanks for the info and it looks like TMC for me. I will try to stay in touch when I get into training since you have the experience. I might have a few more questions. Good luck on the road and stay safe!

Good luck and I'd be happy to answer any questions I can when you are out and about.

Its on a Saturday to Friday week. You have to deliver a load by 2000 hrs on Friday for it to count on the following weeks paycheck.
