    Just for clarification:

You have thumb and two fingers on each hand?

You can not be a trucker because that changes the location of the "middle finger" and no one will recognize it! Hahahaha

I hope that was funny. I don't mean to offend. I am northwest of Chicago and drive intermodal with KLLM. Home every night.

That is for people missing limbs. He is only missing digits. I don't think it will even be an issue. HERE is a page on what to expect at a DOT physical....

I agree with other drivers. You will probably be required to get a medical waiver. Though you state your grip is good. The DOT will require a medical test to prove this. Also because you have to be able to grip the steering wheel in an emergency manuever. In 2010 i cut half way through my left thumb. Cutting the artery and half way through the tendon. Though i did not cut it off, or have a waiver to driver. I learned a lot about medical waivers when i was going through therapy for my thumb

Reading this carefully. It states a physical impairment. This could also go for missing digits, and really depends upon how much of the finger(s) are missing. First knuckle, second knuckle, or all the way to the hand?

I whacked off a few fingers on my left hand some time ago in a different life, before I started truckin. Honestly bro no one has ever said a word about it, most don't even notice it, and frankly I would just proceed like it's no big deal. As long as you can do the work....not just shifting and steering but climbin up in the trailer and stuff. Only you know your limitations right?

Probly bad advice but I'm of the mind that you just steam forward and realize your dream.

There is nothing to debate. It is black and white in the link I provided. It says clear as day missing limb eg. Hand or finger...........
    "SPE Certificates

Drivers with physical impairments which affect their ability to safely operate CMVs according to their medical examiners, or with missing limbs (e.g., a hand or finger, an arm, foot or leg), are required to obtain SPE certificates."

The catch though! Is that it has to be a physical impairment that affects their ability to drive a cmv AS DETERMINED BY THEIR MEDICAL EXAMINER so if the doc doing his physical gives him a medical card he is good to go

I disagree it says physical Imparement as determined by medical examiner OR missing limb. Which means missing limb is not up to the dr.
But then again I guess one can argue are the fingers considered missing? If you are born without them they were never there, so maybe that doesn't count as missing.

You must have Ectrodactyly. I know 2 brothers that have that except instead of thumb and 2 fingers they have what looks like a lobster claw on both hands. Both these guys were called up by the selective service for the draft into the military. One brother was inducted into the Army and the other was rejected because of his hands, even though both brothers have the same. Probably 2 different doctors gave the examination. He was really PO'd because he wanted to serve in the Army and the other brother didn't really want to serve. A few years later when he was telling me about it, I asked why they didn't just swap paperwork. He looked at me and yelled, "DANG, why didn't we think of that?" The brother that went into the Army served a tour in Vietnam as an infantryman and came home ok and went back to civilian life.
