You should quit, there are a lot of bad driving jobs and a lot of good ones. Find a better one. I went local straight from school, made 48k last year, which was my first year, Making over 50k this year

Echosid999, where do you live? And what is your ultimate goal in trucking? With this info maybe some people can give you tips or leads on companies or schools to look into

Im in chicago IL. Ultimately, I would like to be a O/O with my own authority and get a couple trucks and a couple drivers and start a little outfit. Thats the ultimate goal. I know that takes a lot of hard work and experience. But in maybe 10 years, thats where I'll like to be!

Cool, do you have any type of trucking in mind? Van, flatbed, reefer, tanker? Chicago has a lot of opportunity and a few differant schools that are affordable. I went to WOLF Driving School in Schaumburg. 2 years ago it only cost $1800, not sure what it is now. They are not a high tech school, pretty basic, but they had good instructors and flexible schedule. They also do on site testing. They take payments, but you have to be paid in full before they will give you your final test. If you get your liscence from a private school there are a lot of oppertunities out of Chicago.

    echosid999 Thanks this.

Sounds like you are getting some good info. I wish you all the best! Don't listen to the negativity. I am a newbie as well. It will be what we make of it. Desire makes a way; lack of desire makes an excuse. I hear desire in your comments.

Ill definitely be checking out wolf trucking school, and I was looking at flatbed. I come from a construction background (my fathers business) and I see that theres a art to flatbedding haha. From how everything's arranged to to tarping, it definitely is my type of cargo. Life is what you make it, seek good and good will follow. Just another obstacle, but once I finally do make it and start driving my own rig, I'll feel even better, about everything. Just like my father always said, if you love what you do, money will come to you, you don't follow it!

Have you looked into Roehl? They are a decent starter company for flatbed. They are out of WI. They have terminals in Appleton, WI and Gary, IN. They have company school and hire private school grads also.

TMC is a pretty good flatbedding company, though I don't know who they hire; I'm sure a call to them would answer your questions. I would stay away from one of my previous employers, Western Express, if you want flatbedding experience. I went to them as an experienced driver with no flatbedding experience and didn't learn much from my trainer even ough I was out twice as long as they required, at my own request.
