I think the thing is truckers have the governor that wont let them speed? They resent 4-wheelers that do speed? But when you get in your own car, you speed too.

The cops radar is in question. He was traveling about 65MPH in the same direction I was. His radar not only had to calculate my speed but also add the speed of his own car which may or may not be accurate. And it also seems strange that his radar was at the back of his car pointed at me while he was driving 65 to 70MPH himself. And cops can always had the human element to their radar if they want to--add a few MPH and then refuse to let you see the radar or say they already cleared the speed.

Whenever I go past the speed radars on the sides of roads or interstates that show you what your speed is, my speed is always EXACTLY what the speed radar sign says it is.

I, like many truckers, aren't governed mechanically...we maintain the posted speed limits by staying aware of our speedometer, especially down grades with a heavy load. It is actually very easy to do...just have to make it a habit to be aware of both inside and outside of the vehicle one is operating. And I do not speed in my personal vehicle either...tickets mean fines and points on my license...points on my license mean more money in insurance cost, and in the future of my job with the new guidelines about CSA2010. For several years now, any infraction in my personal vehicle is considered a Commercial Vehicle Violation, fines are higher, points are bigger, and the company I drive for must be notified...even when I am off duty from my profession.

Those speed radar info portables aren't always that accurate either. I have seen them 5 or more off (either way)...and as to the rear facing radar...it is already calibrated to get the speed of the vehicle approaching the radar unit...so the officer doesn't have to adjust anything to his forward speed, look at it like a triangulation...the wave is sent to your vehicle, and the time it takes to return to the unit is how the speed is determined. And most departments have the unit calibrated weekly, and some are self adjusting (zeroing).

Like I said...it is easy to maintain the speed limit, just make a habit of watching your speedometer, and your surroundings, and you will become a safe driver, along with keeping your hard earned $$$$in YOUR wallet, not in the county courts!

So you got a speeding ticket and you yourself say you were speeding. What the hell do you want from us???

This is not grade 1 and nobody here is your mommy. If you want a pity party go cry on her shoulder about how the big mean police picked on you.

My sympathy is reserved for those on here who have serious problems. You do not. Pay the GD ticket and next time watch your speed more carefully.

I agree 100%, just about every car out there has Cruise Control so even if you have a lead foot put it on cruise and you don't have to worry about it. Thats what I do.

Okie day. Creds: Former Radar System Engineer USAF.

Assuming he used actual radar (not laser), that would be a pulse doppler system which measures the change in radio wave frequency to calculate motion (speed). I strongly believe that it is also tied into the officers speedometer. This is done in the micro-second time frames. These system have come along way and it will be tough to beat.

Best of luck to you and safe motoring.

So there is the weak link right there--the officers speedometer. How accurate is the data that must be added to calculate my speed? The more I think about, the more I think this guy just made up the whole thing. I wasn't going faster than 82, and when I passed him I was doing about 70. He was just putting along. Then he gets behind me and pulls me over. But the way he said, "You know you were doing 85MPH!!!???" Yeah, so what, that's only 10MPH over the speed limit! And really I was only going 7MPH over the speed limit. Really strange. Darn I wish I could think of the name of that podunk town off I-80.

Many years ago, I was mayor of a small town. I rode with the local sherriff patrols on several occasions. What was interesting is how there was such a 'target rich' environment. People did the most stupid things IN FRONT OF US!
They didn't have to sneak up and catch someone. It was right there!
As a matter of fact, before setting out on patrol for the evening, each officer would put $5 in a pot and the they would decide what to try and ticket...things like "only white sedans with blond drivers and out of state plates". Some of these were pretty ridiculous. The one that wrote the most tickets for the criteria that night got the pot and named the next night's criteria.
I watched officers ignore lots of stuff because they were searching for the 'right' hit!
Don't think people are behaved around the police. They're just as crazy as what you and I see out there every day!

Speeding is speeding and a speeding ticket is a speeding ticket. Deal with it. You got caught.
