Don't do this. Wore out, long fld, triple six and others have given good advice so I won't elaborate on that. However this farmer is trying to create a bidding war between you and your employer. He knows you will need the work and he will chisel you just the way he is chiseling you're boss. When he goes back to your boss you will be out of a customer and out of a job.

I know farmers like this and they are no longer my customers

I haven't looked into anything outside of this forum. I would assume the fixed costs would be substantial. If the contract isn't settled and the two companies walk away from each other, that's when I would get serious. I have a feeling they will work it out. I'm not going
to worry much about it until the time comes.

Well all other moral issues aside and just looking at a couple of numbers. About 2 loads per day at $480 each is $960. Fuel just based on $2.50 per gallon at 80 gallons per day would cost $200. To keep your pay at $70000 per year you would need about $300 per day to maintain what you currently have. So $500 per day is already gone leaving you about $460 per day for truck, maint, ins, license, tax. And don't forget to add in all the extra time it will cost to maintain all the records for FMCSA. Also if truck breaks gotta do something to keep the pigs fed. It is a shame when a person has this much need for a truck and it is still cheaper for him to hire a company instead of buying his own rig. If he can find someone to do it cheaper he will. No guarantees for you. Seems like your with a good company now. I would either stay with them or if I wanted to be an o/o I wouldn't jump in bed with the farmer cause you will be the one gettin screwed.

This was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much for your feedback. Everyone has made me question the farmers intentions. I'll just stick it out and see what happens. No need to get myself in something I can't get out of.

Good for you. Guess this is what everybody trying to tell you. You would have ended up being hurt in the end. Glad you took all advice and made the right decision. The farmer was trying to play you.

The real problem is, someone with a day cab would jump in this for $$hundreds$$ a day less than what you are talking about now. Then somebody sees a huge savings, and your out. Until they screw up, and then your needed again. Good luck
