Yeah, they will. They'll put their cones around the back of the load for you too. I've seen oversize loads pulled into idle air taking up two spots all coned off. -
I personally would like to get into flat bedding once I finish my training, I drove a 22' stake bed straight truck occasionally for my old company and I really enjoyed it. I will keep reading this thread to try to pick up all the info I can.

About the overhangs...
I just got loaded with a load of 50' I-beams...I hung 1 foot over the front and 1 foot off the rear. (simple enough)
But I noticed quite a few other trucks with about 3 feet hanging over the front and 4 feet on the rear...I still believe that is illegal but it must be the "popular" way to haul them without permits. -

Been there done that... I hate that place! How many different yards did they send you to with their hand written map?
I'm guessing the trucks you saw with the overhangs were probably some of the trucks I use to run with. Now their Pittsboro plant... I'd load out of there all day long & be happy. Most of the loads I pulled out of Pittsboro went to Atlanta. The place you loaded at I normally got Houston runs... And what is in Houston? Hell if I know, I know the freight isn't there. -
Only 2 different yards...he put 1 bundle of beams on the trailer in yard 10 and then had me follow him to yard 15 for the rest. -
Wow... You got the privilege to follow? I always got to go to yard 2. Then told to meet him in yard 7 & is it yard 1 & 3 that overlap each other?
Always had to navigate over those R&R tracks & around those potholes in the middle of the night.... and hope there wasn't a beam or a 4x4 stick out in the road to cause me some damage.
I lost my alternator one night in their staging area several years ago... I had to go begging the scale master to let the service truck in to fix me. She wasn't going to because he has no authorization to be there.... -
I have a trick I use to avoid the "guesswork" in knowing where to go...no matter how many times I've been to a place like that...I always tell them I've never been there before and I need good directions.
