I have one trailer setup that has the chain racks on the headboard thats the only way I would pull one without the headache rack. That head board in my opinion is stoughter then a headache rack but u cant hang over the front but I dont prefer to hang over anyway.

I only count 3...not chained the right way. (not everybody knows how to build a bulkhead the right way I guess)

I know mav says no more than 4 back and 1 front, but I could have swore in the green book it was 3 and 4, but guess I was wrong.

I have always been told more than 53 feet on a 48 foot trailer and you need permits...I did used to haul oversize a lot (all the time except for back hauls)...but very few of them were overlength and none were over 53 feet so I wasn't positive either.

That has always been a grey area... The only state that ever gave me problems was Missouri. I also mentioned the name of the company I was running for & the fact that I quit. I quit for a reason... When you get into the grey areas, you never really know whats legal or not. Most DOT officials get confused as well since a 53' flatbed wasn't a common sight up until a few years ago.

I would venture a guess that our resident DOT (psanderson and Diesel Bear) will weigh in as soon as they see this thread..and then there's our resident FMCSA expert Mike MD as well....:yes2557:
