The FSC for our customers continues to rise to meet demand. People need the product and we're going to get it to them. One of our customers is currently working on a new FSC index that will drastically help the drivers.

Fuel going up that high makes everything more expensive. It's more than getting a few cents more for a fsc. I suppose you have a tire surcharge? An oil change surcharge? A miscellaneous surcharge? You just about need all of those!

I hope for everyone's sake fuel does not go that high.

7 isn't the new 6 unless all you genius truckers want to tell everyone it is so that they are willing to pay less!

you guys aren't thinking about the ENTIRE unemployment picture.

the unemployment number only accounts for the people that are on the benefits. it has no idea how many people that have exhausted there benefits and are no longer counted on the books.

6%---maybe by govt standards. the real life number is closer to 25%. and with automation slowly taking over what humans once did for work. and people keep popping out a family of 10 kids or more.

i foresee 50% unemployment if anyone survives the end of the year. :biggrin_255:

$5 gas and fuel is going to hurt the economy worse then what it just went through.

And not including those millions of people who are underemployed or sorta employed as I call it. Many folks with little jobs that really don't amount to anything, but they are not unemployed. Kids getting skinnier by the day but they have a job.
A few days ago I made a comment about $4 a gallon fuel and $1.25 a mile freight. Well, today the price actually did go there and some wise guy actually offered me $1.25 a mile to haul some rails from south LA. to Al. He was not kidding around either. Said he had moved a bunch for that,so I laughed and said there sure must be lots of people who really have fun doing it to take money out of their own pocket to haul them. Sorry,I can't afford that kind of fun today.:biggrin_25522:
BUT, obviously some of our fellow truckers can afford it. Maybe they figure $.70 for fuel and the quarter to pay themselves leaves $.30 a mile profit.:yes2557:

i agree with keeping a good sms-csa score! And you will have leverage.
But! Have you tried to sell anything lately or for that matter buy anything. No! Money is tight right now for most people.
So fuel going to $5.00 will definetly affect the whole economy! Costs arent keeping up with inflation..
I personally get tired of having to yakity yak with a bunch of brokers every day for what i need to run the load! $5 a gal.
Will still have the brokers pushing $2.00 mile frieght! They seem to be stuck on that number....

The economy is bad and how could 5 dollar fuel possibly help!
Great time to be trucking will see....

If fuel hits $5 next month and stay there, no, the income is not out there to support what that will do to inflation.

But that is not how it works. Fuel will rise on demand and that demand is driven by increased spending by consumers. And we are talking sustained prices. We are always going to see the ups and downs from political turmoil.

Bill you seem like a smart guy but oil goes up just by saying the word demand.

there are alot of good points on here from all of you O/O's... I guess my question was as a whole what would most of us do... Yeah i like others made a killing of the FSC couple years back but if it does go above the 5 or 6 dollar mark how much are the brokers and shippers willing to pay to ship without hurting their profit/loss margin. there is only so much we as a whole can charge without them saying no and stuffing it on someone else who will haul it for cheap..

A down turn in the economy will separate the "businessmen" from the "drivers with a truck payment".
