That's a good reason to have even a basic GPS in the truck. They won't ever lie or be clueless about their location. A driver can also call up Google on their smartphone in a pinch to narrow down their location.

I had 2 trainers from 2 different companies. The first one taught me how to drive the same trip over and over again (he was on a dedicated account). The trainer at the next company didn't teach me anything other than how to scale and slide tandems because I made a big deal about how I was worried about overweight tickets (thought sliding tandems would be tougher). Other than that, all my training was just driving. I didn't even use the E-logs myself. What I really needed was a trainer to help me figure out how to get from A to B. I was just given directions by both of them.

I've started thinking about the people on here that think trainers should have 10 years or more of experience to train. I'm thinking that's a terrible idea now. Both my trainers claimed to have 20 years experience. It means they don't know what it's like to be new anymore, and they have TERRIBLE habits that they think nothing of. I wish I had someone that only had a year or two experience, who still understood what I was struggling with and could help.

Standardized training of some sort would be a big help. A checklist of material that actually gets taught to some degree.
