    Hello,

I am at a company sponsored school in Colorado and am slated to go to Stevens. I passed my DOT physical but have some colorblindness. I was told the Stevens doctor is very stringent. So, I really need to know exactly what test they use to check colorblindness? Thank you in advance.

Hopefully, someone will answer your question. If the answer is bad news, then hire on with a company that won't require another physical; they accept the physical you took for CDL school. These companies just do a drug test.

    Thanks Chinatown,

Can you provide me with some companies that accept the DOT physical and hire CDL grads? Also, I will have basically no money left over, so these companies would have to provide most everything...any recommendations or is that impossible?

Sure, here's some names of companies that hire new CDL grads and accept your current DOT medical card. Not sure they all hire that far west, but some do.

    TransAm
    Freymiller
    Paschall Truck Lines
    Magnum Ltd.
    J&R Schugel

Submit applications right now, don't wait until graduation. Apply to all of them. The will provide transportation from your home to their terminal for orientation. This way you will have something lined up in case bad news from Stevens. Study hard & make sure you pass and get that CDL. Don't volunteer any information to any company;just answer questions keeping answers short and to the point with no added info that isn't specifically requested.
Money is tight, so stock up on Ramen Noodles, instant coffee, etc. to use until your first paycheck.

Submitting applications does not commit you to a job. Job offers don't commit you.
Having job offers in hand is just a good backup plan for you if Stevens doesn't work out.I wouldn't discuss this with any school instructors or school administrators; keep it to yourself.

When I went to orientation at Stevens, and every subsequent DOT physical I've had, all they check is your ability to see red, yellow, and green. The nurse holds up cards with a colored circle (3 individual cards) and you have to identify the color.

Anyone know Steven's Blood Pressure requirements? An older thread said how Steven's turned away many people for medical reasons even when they qualify for standard 2 year medical cards. The DOT standard is 140/90 and I'm at 134/83.

Texas has more than Stevens for CDL training:
    FFE (Frozen Food Express)
    Raider Express
    Millis Transfer
    Roehl Transport
CTL Transportation and MCT Transportation both will sponsor through MTC Truck Driver Training in Dallas. CTL Transportation is hazmat/tankers.
    Celadon in Laredo
Mesilla Valley Transportation in El Paso.

This was 2009 and 2011 and no, I haven't worked there for several years. But, I've had DOT physicals at other places as well and every test was the same. The DOT physical is a standardized test and will be the same no matter where it is done.
