I do get hit on and flirted with a lot out here.. and most of the time it annoys me... like when I am in a hurry and just want to run in and out of the truck stop, go to the bathroom, grab some coffee and go...

When I have just showered, or it has been an easy day and I am clean and look good and guys flirt with me that is when it is annoying.... but, when I have had a tough day, gotten all dirty, my hair is wind blown, I have sweated off or wiped off all my make up.. and I am walking into the truck stop and a guy holds the door and makes an innocent flirtatious comment... like, got hold the door for a pretty trucker.. thats when I appreciate it...

Just do your job to the best of your abilities and you'll be fine. That there are idiots out there is life. If you do a good job and don't pull the "card" you'll be accepted faster than you think. This ISN'T 30 years ago. If your "looking" to be descriminated against, then trust me, you'll find it. There's more and more women period. Solo women AND husband and wife teams. I just wish the "Truck" manufacturers would catch up to the reality of modern trucking and design a stock sleeper with H/W teams in mind.

The only real thing WE did was we bought a "campers" toilet for my wife at night. I DID NOT like her getting out of the truck at night. Sorry, but its possible. So we got her a "potty" for night time. It folded up nicely under the bunk and was all nicely contained in a little baggy for later disposal.

Other than that, life on the road is what you make it. We had a good time. Enjoy it. Learn to do little things on your downtime to keep a "real" life. Use your internet to find local movie houses, sporting events, the zoo, whatever it is that YOU like to do. To keep normal.

Good luck and learn ALL you can. It's a good gig if you make it so!!!

Hey MH, just another quick note on how things have changed. Back in the '70's when I got my chauffeurs license, in Wisconsin, all that was required was a road test OF ANY KIND in the previous 2 years. When the examiner asked me that, I said, well, I took my motorcycle road test the previous year. He said , good enough, and I've been grandfathered ever since.

couple years before I got my licence my brother did his with a old Ford 1/2 ton with a 4 speed, that was all that was needed for a class 1 road test back then, 2 years later you needed at least a 3 ton.
