As the title states, I'm currently in CDL school. I was pulled over for suspected dui 1/2016 which was in Florida. It was later reduced to a reckless driving so I currently don't have a dui on my record. My 3 years should be up soon for that charge. I am actually going to receive the CDL after the 3 year point.
My questions are:
1. Will companies look at this charge as a dui even tho it was reduced?
2. My offense date and convicted date are different due to the court process. Which date will they look at? 1/2016 arrest date, 6/2016 convicted date?
3. Which companies will I have success being hired on with in January of 2019? I'm more looking for any to get the experience with. I know the pay will be low regardless.
4. I've spoken with Western Express and they seem to have no issues with my situation. Has anyone worked for them?
To sum up this post, I just want to throw it out there that I never drink and drive. This was a one time mistake that I take responsibility for. I left a wedding and was pulled over that night. I know I'll get people saying that drinking and truck driving is a bad mix, but that isn't me. So please understand that it not my m.o. thanks.

1) depends on what the "quick go back" is for your state DMV records is...for instance, in my stare, that is 3 years...some states, it is 5 years....
BUT ANY EMPLOYER can order up a LIFETIME DMV on you, but nearly none of them do..
as a result, i only give the 3 years information, that a DMV record will show up
2) conviction date
3) too many to list
4) no, i have not worked for W/E......they are not really all that great, near or at the bottom of the barrel, but at least, it's a start.... -

Thanks for the reply. I assumed the conviction date was the real date they would look at. Perhaps w/e is where is should go until at least June when my conviction date passes. IDK how long FL holds the records but this is my only moving violation in 13 years. So at least I have that going for me.

you can simply go to your local DMV or go online, and order up a DMV record on yourself....(i think online, they charge a small fee, at least they do up here)..from that DMV record you will get, you will plainly see how far back it goes....
just because some do not like Western Express, does not mean you won't as well...you might actually like them.......gotta give them a chance.Lepton1 and BigDog Trucker Thank this. -
It looks like they offer a 3 year and 7 year drivers record's check. But I did call them and asked if the charge would stop me from getting a CDL and they said no but I may have a problem finding a job until it hits 3 years old. So maybe 3 years is the answer. I'll have to dig further in to it. I guess I'm more concerned with the other issues. Mostly if they will look at this charge as a dui even tho reduced and also who to apply with once I get the license. I'm already test ready for the CDL but not in a rush for it yet as I'm still working my regular job that pays well. I'm just looking for a change and would like to go otr and maybe start my own business someday if I enjoy it.
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
They won't look at it as a DUI. Nothing they would be able to see would show any indication of a DUI so I would not stress over that. I have never worked for Western Express but have heard they are okay except that they never want to send you home which to me would be a deal breaker but maybe you could deal with it. @Chinatown could probably give you some better recommendations. Best wishes and Happy Thanksgiving!

ok then, most companies will order up the 3 year as it'll be cheaper than the 7 year....(i'll surmise)
it goes by what you were convicted of, not charged with, so for GOD'S SAKE MAN...DO NOT VOLUNTEER CHARGES OVER CONVICTIONS.....!!!!!!!!!
you should be fine, best of luck to you, i'm outta this one now.Lepton1, BigDog Trucker, Truckermania and 1 other person Thank this. -
I feel for ya, dude. LE is getting STUPID with this drinking n driving crap. The mega companies shouldnt have a problem hiring you. Theyre either self-insured or can afford to hire on a 'riskier' driver. But some of the more reputable or smaller mom n pop type outfits might stay away from you for the time being. Maybe go with the best mega, give em a year, then move on?
Lepton1 and mikewu9900 Thank this. -
Bingo. Just because you were charged does not mean you were convicted! If the app asks for convictions, and you were only charged but then had those charges DROPPED, then you put nothing down.Last edited: Nov 22, 2018
