ok I know I'll get some crap for this, so only respond if you have helpful advice, thank you. I've been a truck driver for 8 years now, with several saftey awards. My last employer I did mainly local here in phoenix and it was pretty good, then they forced me onto a bid where I'm driving my full 11 every night all night and after 4 months I fell asleep and rolled the truck. the officer was going to give me a ticket, but he never turned it in so I have a clean driving record and no proof of the accident other than my previous employer. Is there any companies that will hire people with rollovers even when theres no ticket? I wouldn't say anything about it, but I know my previous emplyer will so I tell companies during the application to keep from falsifying my app. I can drive at night, not just driving every night. any advice for me? I was also thinking about becoming an O/O but I'll need like 8k inorder to start.
Don't know of anybody who will touch you with a roll over accident. Sure there are some but how honest are they. And its nothing against you, its their insurance companies. You might have better luck looking into box truck type companies. and for the 8k to be an o/o, hoping you mean only 8k more. Years ago the suggested number was 20k at least and hope for the best.
Sorry to hear about that accident. I too drive at night, from second shift, into third, and it can be tough, no doubt about it. I too have been told that rollovers nearly disqualify a driver from getting hired, as it was indeed an indication of falling asleep at the wheel. All I can say is, keep applying. Maybe an expediting company may hire you, or a smaller outfit. To start up your own business can be costly, beyond the 8 grand you speak of, but can be worth it. Do not forget though, you will need insurance for that too. I am not sure how much information is out there, but if your accident is on file someplace, they may find out as well, and either deny you coverage, or make a substantial increase in your premiums. I feel for you. I know there's been a few times I pushed a little harder than I should have and almost nodded off. But like the other guys said, that's great if the cop didn't write you a ticket. But your problem is there was an insurance claim with your name on it, right ? I mean generally when you fill out a job application it will ask for your accident history. Maybe after 7 years or something this will drop off, I don't know. But for the time being I hate to say it, but you better look into welding, painting, construction or something. Insurance companies rule the world.
