I am so sorry for your loss of your father hope all is well as can be expected with your family. As far as getting the truck home you could check into a company that has drivers that shuttle trucks to companies. As this may be cheaper than piggy backen the rig home on another truck! I don't know who to contact about this but alittle research on your part could help with your situation.

Hi, where at in NV? I have a great truck insurance agent, I will talk to her tomorrow and ask her what is the best way. I am guessing you want to get it home and put it for sale the quickest most economical way. Do you have someone to drive it home?
I'm sorry to hear what happened, I will let you know what my ins agent says. She is pretty smart.

I'm sorry for your loss. He probably died doing what he loved though, how many folks can say that when they go to the big truckstop in the sky. May he rest in peace.

You should share with everyone what company it was that he drove for. Sounds like a company that most of us would like to steer clear of. That's pretty pathetic on the company's part.

Best of luck to you folks.

Hi, I talked to my insurance agent, she told me that when you lease a truck to a company like that, the owner of the truck has to carry bobtail insurance in addition to the companys insurance. Sometimes it is through the company but usually the owner of the truck gets it on his own. If you find out where he had his bobtail ins, and get a copy of the certificate you should be able to get a temp. permit from MO to transport (drive) it home. If it was cancelled you might be able to reinstate it long enough to get the truck moved since all this happened just last month. The bobtail insurance would cover the truck pulling the trailer as long as it is his trailer and it is not loaded
The agent told me if you can't work it out that way, you will need to contact an independent agent locally and see what they can do. They might be sympathetic and be able to write a policy that you could cancel after you get it home. You can't get any kind of temp permit to move the truck without at least an insurance binder or policy. If you could get that done, and get a temp permit, you would still need to pay your way through the states you travel in because you wouldn't have a valid IFTA. I can look up the ph#'s for the states the truck would have to travel through if you need me to and you could call to see what the trip permits would cost. I don't think it would be too much. If I had a little free time I would offer to go get it for you but I can't take any time off from my customer right now, we are pretty busy. If you can figure a way to get it moved, I live near Denver on 20 acres, you can park it here for a month or two if you need to put it someplace. What about putting it in a storage lot for now someplace close to where its presently located? It would be economically unfeasable to have it towed all the way home, you might be able to find someone with a stepdeck to bring the truck but then still would need another truck to move the trailer, again very expensive. That is unless his trailer is a stepdeck it would be pretty easy to load the truck on the trailer and bring it home with another truck. I did that with my other truck last year when the motor blew up in Texas, all I had to do was take the exhaust pipes off. If I can help let me know. My main truck is also a 98 Peterbilt 379.

When I had bobtail insurance the policy stated the truck had to be under a carrier's authority and the policy would be canceled 3 days after that contract was terminated unless the truck contracted to another carrier .

MuddyWaters, thanks he did love it and he sure did love that truck. It makes it so hard to let the truck go knowing how hard my father worked to get it and how much he loved it.
I would rather not mention the name of the company just yet for fear of repercussions. Once things are all finalized and settled I will return and name names.

MM71, well it is a 1998 Peterbilt 379, cat (not sure on the size but I do now that it is one of the last big cats that Peterbilt sold before going to the new emission safe engines) the color is ice blue with dark blue fenders, straight stacks, chrome galore. Chrome headache rack stocked with blue straps (Dad wanted them to mach the truck), chains, bungees, and what ever else one could possibly need with a flatbed.
The trailer is a 2005 aluminum Reitnouer, two side boxes on each side of the trailer, I am not sure of the measurements of the trailer but I can get back to you on that once I get home and look at the paper work on it. My father also had the trailer equipped with air bags so he could flip a switch in the cab of the truck in order to adjust the weight on the trailer.
This is all that I can think of, once I get home and look over all the paper again I can give you more details.
