I have decided to go with a New Glider and a New rebuilt 12.7 Detroit. Before the Motor is dropped in is there any original parts that should be replaced with something better like a better Turbo system or something. Thanks

You can get a bigger turbo and the ported and jet hot coated exhaust manifold if you want. Where are you going to get the glider from? They should be able to tell you some of the options but some things can void the warranty. You can talk to Pittsburgh Power or Bully dog about other items along with an ECM upgrade also.

Well, now I get an email from the kw dealer here in Florida staying I can't get the new w900 and put a 12.7 in it that it will have to be a n14 or an isx.

I can guess why: did they tell you specifically why? That's no good

My boss bought 2 Coronado gliders using the 12.7. 500hp and both are averaging 6 - 6.5 mpg doing flatbed work.

Find some place else to spend your money.BAYOU Thanks this.

You can put what ever motor you want to 350 big cam 6nz 11.1 Detroit don't matter if they don't want to work with you just walk away.....

The Detroit 12.7 is a great motor I would not do anything to that motor. N14 is a great engine as well... you also can try Fitzgerald glider kits, I'm sure they can get you what you want.

I dropped an exact replacement reman 12.7 in my 2000 Argosy in 2008 at about a million miles. I thought about various mods, exhaust manifolds turbo upgrades etc. I decided I am not an engineer, this is my only truck and the original configuration gave me great service and great fuel mileage. I am sure I could have made some improvements, but what was the cost benefit analysis like? I did replace all the accessories(AC, Alt, water pump, turbo etc) with either new or reman units.

They had a few problems with the intake/exhaust manifolds cracking and the turbo/injectors were a tad small. Fitzgeralds in TN builds gliders and they upgrade the intake/exhaust manifolds, turbo, and injectors before they put the engines in. It is standard with them. I'm not sure if you could buy a roller W900 and send it to them. I know they do peterbilts and freightshakers but I'm not sure about the KW. You can google their website. I don't want to post it here and get in trouble.
As far as the engines go, in my opinion, they are the best engines ever made. Plenty of power, good on fuel mileage, they will run run run, and when they break, parts are cheap, you can find the parts anywhere, and any shop will work on them. We still have about 10 international eagles on our yard with 60 series detroits. All of them are 2004 and well north of 1,000,000 miles. Each one fires up and works like a dog every day.
