Lots of good info in this thread. I have to admit, I was wondering the same thing, why don't more folks just buy instead of lease. I guess now I have my answer!

After learning the hard way about being a O/O with an older truck in the 80's I heard the best piece of advise ever about it, and it's so simple. "In trucking you are either going to have shop bills or payments, and with shop bills the wheels aren't turning."

What intices a lot into the LEASE deal is getting a New / fairly new tractor , big HP and no $ down and no credit check in many cases. The last 2 items being the eventual downfall for many of the LEASEE if not financially stable.
To purchase ( reputible deal ) you need $ for downpayment and a decent credit history .
Lot of O/Os with new / newer trucks that are SHOP bound and the wheels are not turning and have payments and repair bills. -

Thats not true...I See O/O's pulling Dry vans/ Reefers/ Flatbeds/ Moving Vans/ Enclosed car carriers........I see them every day.
At some point in the next 44 years or so that I have left to drive I want to own my own truck, and I AM going to figure out how all these drivers are running these BIG sleepers, Given the price tag and weight issues.
