Why do you need a program to do something that should take the average.............well perhaps ABOVE average computer user just a few minutes to do?
All installing a "FREE" program can do is set you up for serious infection.

Yes.....download and install a BOOTLEG program.
At MINIMUM you are STEALING money from the creator of a LEGITIMATE program, but you could also be installing a program that has been reverse-engineered and re-compiled with some malicious software.

    Dieselboss Thanks this.

You said it your self, A lot of users aren't above average nor just average users..
Thats where a program would come in handy (User-friendly Program anyways)

Very Possible; but unlikely if your just going directly to a well known website but if your surfing around you would increase the chances of infection...

    Very True!! - A lot of bootleg/pirated Software is somtimes wrapped up with malware or sometimes even just Malware! and not the program;

    Then your pretty much screwed!

    That makes sense.........
    Lets see....
    what do I do?
Do I delete the history, cookies and temporary internet files, then de-frag......
or do I wipe my HARD DRIVE and re-install......
    I am so confused.

I only know of one person I would recommend he D/L a program to "clean and defrag". He is dumb as the day is long. He has problems with the SIMPLE programs, always calls me at 2 am and wants me to be his tech support. Then NEVER listens. He suffers REAL BAD from ADD. I'll be in the middle of "walking him thru" something quite simple, and suddenly he is off 270 degrees talking about something else.
Like the last time, he wanted to know how to use the "Landstar" Print Module for DriversDailyLog.
FIRST, I spent over 1 1/2 hours TRYING to walk him thru the steps of changing his Driver/Company/Terminal Address/Truck&Trailer numbers etc., something that takes me about 5 minutes to do.
Then he asked me: "How do I get the Landstar Module" to work.
(Knowing Tom) I asked: You DID 'install it', didn't you Tom?
He says: Install........? How do I do that>
I ask: You DID download it, right?
    He says: yes
I ask: where did you down load it to?
    Says he: I don't know
I say: well Tom, when you figure that out, call me back (hang up)

NO ONE could be as stupid as Tom

"Well known" websites HAVE been known to get compromised. Also, someone who can't perform basic maintenance on their computer, like clean-up/defrag generally wouldn't be able to tell if that "website someone on the internet suggested" is legitimate or malicious.

Yep........happened to me, before I learned.

Its just if and when we meet them we'll never know

I know how you feel - trust me... it took me at least 3 hours to teach my grandma how to just turn on and log in to her Email account; Even now she is having trouble (sometimes)

This site is put up by computershopper and they do test and verify all programs are virsus free.

a lot are trial basis, but it tells you that under the program details.

A lot are free and are termed shareware.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Try www.Snapfiles.com/freeware and look under the heading "Security-Privacy". There are programs in the folders "Adaware and Spyware Removal" and "Cookie Management". This website has a ton of free software.
