Hey, everyone. Quick question regarding authorities. I recently got offered a position a local car hauling fleet and I've got everything squared away with the exception of establishing an authority. In order to drive as a sub-contractor with this particular company you need to have an established authority that is at least 1 year old. In an attempt to avoid waiting an entire year to get on the road, is it possible to purchase an authority from somebody else? Somebody with an authority that is at least 1 year old? Possibly someone retiring their company that no longer needs theirs? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Yes you can purchase authority from someone else, but it won't solve your problem. FMCSA gives the purchaser a new number when authority is sold. You might be able to lease onto someone who has active authority and haul under their authority, but then they will want a percentage of the revenue.
