Hi,
The general knowledge test to sum is pretty much just common sense. It's mostly like you asked, the general rules of the road + the basics of a semi. Lots of the questions regard an actual truck and some specific scenarios. Some of the other questions are just common sense like "Hydroplaning is: "... or, "Which of these statements about drugs is true? "... So just practice, practice, practice.
I personally used the "CDL Prep" app, white steering wheel blue background.
I studied/practiced for a few days - a week at most and then scheduled an appointment at the DMV to take the tests. This app also allows you to study/practice for the endorsements, so I'd do them too. I was going to take the tests for the endorsements but I didn't even think I was going to pass the 3 required ones so I opted out on taking them... stupid mistake but it's ok, I can get them down the line.
Everything on this app was almost word for word exactly what was on the actual CLP tests. Went in passed first try got them all done in about 15 mins or so. The ladies who were working thought I cheated because I did the tests so fast lol.

Waste of time....that's a good one.

Back when I took these tests..

It was done in a local school gymnasium along with a hundred others. Tests were done on paper with pencils and had to wait for results.
Most there testing were disgruntled drivers who already had their Licenses for years. Surely don’t remember studying any manuals, that’s for sure!NewTruckerGuy and Dwellsouth Thank this. -
Yeah, I was about to say this, it is a small book, almost a booklet. Easy read too, the only complicated thing in it is the HAZMAT section.Dwellsouth Thanks this.

Never said I didn't have the ambition to read and study the CDL manual, I'm well aware it will have to be done at some point... I was simply trying to figure out if it was at THIS point in a sit-down-and-study scenario, or CDL school in a learn-in-class scenario.
As for everyone else... all very good info and very much appreciated.
@Concorde appreciate the links... very helpful.Concorde, Dwellsouth, Chinatown and 2 others Thank this. -
This video reads the question and only reads the right answer, which I like a little better than the other one I posted. I watched these types of videos in July of 2020 with literally zero knowledge about trucking while I was feeling completely overwhelmed with information. It helped so much that while I was taking the tests, I could hear the answers in my mind straight from the videos.
NewTruckerGuy, Wunsch and tscottme Thank this.
